Making progress on my 302 Swapped 87 TC

Hey guys,

Now that I finally have bought a place with a garage, and had enough time to set up the garage as a workspace/shop... Finally been able to attack some of the things I have been unable to do or avoiding to do. Having a garage is the only way to go... Huge props to the members who are outside driveway warriors... Especially this time of year..

Anywho! I took some photos, but I actually decided to make some Youtube videos of my work as I went along doing it. I thought maybe if someone could benefit from them it would be worth it. Not a whole lot of resources for these particular cars.

So take a look if you're interested! Not looking to gain any subscribers or anything like that. Just doing these videos for anyone who can benefit from them or who is like me and enjoys spending a little spare time to watch progress videos of a build. I compiled the many shorter length videos into longer ones.

I have a little bit of cursing in them (sorry guys!) I try not to use toilet talk but sometimes got frustrated and had to fire a few off. Just a heads up in case kids are around.

November update video: I had torn apart my cluster and dash to fix and replace burnt out bulbs, repair the flexible circuit board, clean all my gauges and plastics, and I did the tach resistor conversion to make my factory tach V8 worthy! Also discovered the reason I had some up-down play in my steering column, there were 2 large bolts loose tucked between the turn signal indicators. Tightened those up, and also pulled the steering wheel off and decided to go aftermarket with a Grant 415 Challenger. I also bought stainless steel hex bolts for the face of it. And yes I hooked up the hub properly so the horn works! I want to replace my y horns with something a little more manly. I like the one in my Jeep Liberty, I might look at doing that in the future. I also rid of the 1" spacers on the rears.

December Progress: Rear brake work and spacers done

Window that fell off track fixed! Also re-finished my door lock/unlock pieces.

Worked on replacing my clutch and accelerator cables, accelerator pedal assembly, clutch quadrant, firewall adjuster.

Dreadful Headliner restoration! This sucked. I am so happy this is over with. I used roll-on truck bed liner as my finishing product. What do you guys think?

Still more to be done but for now this is what I have accomplished in the last couple months. More than I have done in a few years combined. Still looking towards new seats (Corbeau GTS is what I'm looking at) window tint all around, new windshield, need to replace my driver door pins (have them just need to do them outside) and rear upper & lower control arms (lowers planning to get from MM and adjust them to add height to my rear wheels) before putting on the new 275's I bought.

More to come! Enjoy!

Got some videos to watch when I can sleep now. I always have a garage, but I get so much  in it I can never work in it. Keep the videos coming. Better then watching mustangs crash on youtube all night.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Hahaha yeah I get sucked into those videos too. My garage was getting pretty bad for a while.. Had to get back in the saddle and it's somewhat decent again. Luckily my not so big garage doesn't take forever to clean. Pros of having a small space!

Also just fixed my profile so it has a profile picture and a signature photo. However... It seems to be stretching the photo out a little and blurring it. Any ideas why? Doesn't matter how big or small I make it on the host site foxtbird makes it blurry.

I did the same swap in a tiny one car garage that my bird barely fit in.  I haven't had a chance to watch your videos yet, where are you with your swap?

Swap is complete! Car runs beautifully. I'm chasing down a driveline vibration.. I have read a few people who say we just need a completely new driveshaft built and that balancing our factory ones will never fix it. I had mine balanced with all new Spicer u-joints and a new slip yoke to remove the old harmonic balancer but still have a pretty nasty vibration.

Also to add,  my car is lowered quite a bit and I suspect my pinion angles could be a big reason why. I have new control arms to my list of things but I will definitely be buying adjustable uppers to properly set the pinion angle.

Aod and t5 are the same length. I hammed my dampener off the aod driveshaft and installed it as is.

I haven't noticed any vibration with my swap.  As for control arms I used the adjustable CHE tubular rears.

Yeah I was looking at the same set, they seem to make the nicest ones and seem fairly priced. Mine are still factory bushings... I could probably make a safe bet my wheel hop is attributed greatly to that. That and my vibration probably helps add some to that as well. New uppers & lowers will cure that. And also just bring the car up to date and make it more road safe.

Pull the 3550 and check input shaft end play.  I chased a vibration in my car for a long time and finally attributed it to excessive end play in my TKO.  I will also note that I finally got in touch with one of the most knowledgeable guys on Tremec transmissions and he is the one that pointed me in the right direction and had the shims for the input shaft the cheapest.
