9 inch rear end puking out vent

My son and I went on the first big drive in the T-bird on Friday night.  We went with the local Pensacola Cars and Coffee group.  We went around trip of about 80 miles, some interstate driving and back two lane roads.  Saturday morning I went out to check things out, looking for leaks etc...

I noticed some oil on the ground below the gas tank.  I check the brake lines, looked good, then I touch it and smelled it.  Gear oil from the vent on the 9 inch rear end.  Any suggestion why this would happen?  My vent tube is only 1/2 inch long, I have noticed before on trucks that the vent has a long hose on it.  Going to drain gear oil and change to see if any moisture was in the housing.

The vent tube is likely just a nipple that approx 2.5ft hose should connect on to... The hose generally attached to chassis with the open end inside a opening in crossmember, frame rail, etc... Any lube pushed into hose will drain back into axle...

If lube isn't milky I doubt there is a moisture issue...
