Tripminder reset?

Installed my tripminder finally and it will only display the time and says RESET. I have tried to reset the time by the ford book, but it just doesn't do anything at all. The time keeps counting from 12:00 when I plugged it in and never changes even if I un-plug it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Its a pain. Did you clean the buttons?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I didn't do anything to it.  All of the buttons move freely and click when they are pushed in. I guess that is what I will try and see what happens. thank you for the quick response. I will post my findings, Thanks

It is pretty important to take them apart and clean the button contacts for the buttons to work.  Remember, these are 30 year old electronics and some corrosion does occur over time.  I've sold quite a few of these cleaning the buttons works most of the time on nonresponsive units.

Here is a video I made a while back for a customer verifying proper functioning and how to set the time.  (Click pic for video)

Cleaned The buttons and IT WORKS!!!!  Thank you guys so very much. I have been trying to get some long awaiting upgrades done and this was one of them. I took it apart and went underneath the buttons with some very fine sand paper and all is well. Thanks again

I wish mine was that bright like in the pic. It functions, but not that bright at all. How does it come apart for cleaning/ What do you use for cleaning?

2 push-in tabs on each of the two sides and it slides apart. Un-plug the bunch of wires to separate the two halves and then there are 4 small screws that remove the face from the housing. I just slid some fine sand paper under the silver plates that activate the functions when the buttons are pressed and re-assembled. You will understand it as you take it apart, just be gentle.    Next is to figure out how to  change the mileage on my 140 mph speedo so it matches the mileage on the car.
