For those that have completed the swap, how did you fasten the throttle cable ball plate to the Exploder shaft?

Tmoss's writeup indicates using some good epoxy and a small screw, and I'm ok with that, but looking at other options also.

Also, did you guys use the Explorer TPS and swap the connector, or drill out and use the Fox TPS? Either way is fine by me...I'll probably use the Explorer TPS, actually.

Some not-so-relevant info: the Cobra intake i have has a standard 60mm TB on it...so I have the necessary parts here to make the 65mm unit work. :D

Here's the 65mm. I know there's a step inside that's actually the proper measurement...I just don't have a bore mic (or whatever exactly they're called).

I simply swapped the throttle arm with one from a fox body. I ground down where the arm is pressed on to the shaft until I could pull it off carefully, then simply put the Fox arm on the shaft, a small tack weld, safe and done. Takes about 5 minutes or so. I used Fox body TPS and IAC. I was looking for a Cobra intake, found a GT-40 I have to pick up Saturday morning with the 5.8 lower. I'll sell the lower, get more than my money back for what I'm paying, then have some extra cash for the first time in months (KITZ!!!!!!).

I might see if my local machine shop guy can tack mine on there too. Rather have it secure than with something that could eventually vibrate off or out.

5.8 Cobra lower, you say? Throw me a number..?

I removed the throttle blade from my stock TB, and enlarged the slot in the shaft with a cutoff wheel until the larger plate fit through. Disassembled the larger TB the same way. Then I installed the modded shaft and arm into the larger throttle body and reinstalled the larger plate.

I like that idea too. I vaguely remember your post when you did that..I'll have to look it up in a bit. :)

I agree, I would want it tack welded. I need to do this soon also.

I'm doing like Foe did, swapping the 65mm plate onto the shaft from the 60mm, then swapping the old shaft, new plate into the 65mm TB unit.

Got them both apart, etc, came in to take a break from cleaning the 65 TB and it's relevant pieces. Also my 65 TB already has the 90* elbow...it's an F6 date code part...was it the later ones that didn't have this?

Anyway, once it's cleaned, reassembled, I'll take a pic or two, and maybe some along the way, then once the TB is done and set aside, I'm going to clean the upper/lower. Considering polishing the upper, but I don't know. Hate to polish it, only to let it get dirty again...car isn't a show car, it's a fun car. I couldn't care less who looks at it and thinks "gee, this thing is perfect, or this guy needs to wash his engine"..not in it for "attaboys" or "needs more work". LOL

I am NOT putting a greasy, dirty motor in, however...I'm cleaning it up so that it looks like what it will be...a nice, freshened up engine with decent parts on and in it.

Got to find my dremel and nick out that shaft a bit so the larger plate will fit. That, the last bit of cleaning, and reassembly will likely be tonight's work. It got to 53 here today...why can't it be spring, already? :-\
