Guages

I have an 88 Cougar BLue max with the basic digital guages not the one with the tach.  I want to know is there any way to change the color of the lights i will be pulling it out soon to mod the speedo so it doesnt stop at 85 so if its possible i'll just do it then.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

someone on the old board did that to an mn12 i think.  Im pretty sure it had to do with a bulb color and such instead of the standard clear.
i had a link to it once but i probably did not have a reason to keep it around.,,,sorry.

Cluster's may be different buy they use the same style of illumination.  I did it with the speedo on my base cluster.  The problem lies in finding bulbs that don't fade.

I already found bulbs gonna use blue LED replacements and as a bonus the interior light on the headliner will be replaced with an LED as well

This is a really old thread but I was considering changing the colors on my all digital dash.  I read through the CoolCats article and bought some DJ gels to change the color of the green numbers and symbols.  Before I pull the cluster and start cutting and taping,  I figured I would test the gels out on my PC first.  I googled up some big green numbers and put the gels over the screen.  It was terrible.  The aqua gel did basically nothing,  the blue gel pretty much canceled the light so you could barely see the numbers,  the red gel gave took about 30% of the brightness away and it was sort of a yellowish color.

what are these guys talking about?  How do you get a cool-looking display like what is shown?  Is it about changing out the bulbs? or is there a green filter that you remove first?

I'm sure I'm missing something.

I never understood that cluster either,, who has the tack over their speedo and the independent fuel, temp, oil & charge all showing up at once?

Yeah.  those gauges must have had more white than green like ours.  I thought maybe you could scratch off the green coating on the LEDs or something but was afraid to go that far.
