Overdrive AOD When and what speed to use ?

What the ideal speed to put into Overdrive ?

I put my T-Bird into OD at 70-80 Kms and drop it back to Drive at 50kms
keep it in D when in the city and on hills regardless the speed.

Any thoughts on how you use yours ?

In stock form with highway gears, yes.  I have mine set up right now to go into O/D @ an indicated 53 MPH at very little to zero throttle input (and yes; my speedo is accurate).

In stock guise I used to keep it in D on roads that had traffic lights with a speed of 50 MPH or less.  Annoying to hit O/D only to have to hit the brakes so I opted to keep it off.

The way I have the car set up now I don't have to worry about it so much.  55 MPH means I'm on a parkway/expressway be me so.....

In every Ford AOD or 4R70W I've had, I always us D unless I'm going to be over 45mph for at least a couple of minutes. All the OD band stories scare me. Lol

Due to having an epoxy mod valve body in my Thunderbird I use OD all the time. I do have a 2" OD band and an A+ OD servo so it really doesn't matter. My Mark VII has a stock AOD and I usually drive around in D and only shift to OD if I'm going to be going faster than 45 for an extended period of time.

I leave it in od on the shifter and hit the 42mph to enguage od whenever possible. generally in 40-45mph speed zones.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I've never driven in D...I've had many AODs and never had a problem with any, even hauling stuff up steep hills with a loaded work truck

You are both doing it correctly. ;)

The factory OD band is the weakest so anytime you can "save" it is a good thing.

When I had the stock AOD, I never put it in "d".  I always drove in "OD".  That being said most of the miles on my car were highway. The AOD went almost 190k before I swapped the T-5 in and was still working fine.

A blown aod is a good reason to drop in the t-5 you always wanted...

honestly, my first car i blew the trans on wheny tv cable clip.broke around 250k miles. every other aod I've had was either already toasted when i bought it, or didn't give me any trouble the whole time I've owned.the.car.
