Rear Axle. (Found one, thanks for everyone that replied)

Howdy all.  I'm looking for 3.08, 3.27, or 3.45 geared rear axle.  7.5 or 8.8 for the whole axle.  Location would be near Columbus, Ohio.

If you have just the ring and pinion for a 7.5 I would be willing to pay shipping for just the ring and pinion set.  My 7.5 rear took a dump and need to replace the gears or the whole axle.

If you were closer I could hook you up with a TC 8.8 with 3.55 ratio gearing. It has 5 lug SN95 axles, 10 inch Crown Vic drums, so it's probably not what you'd want anyway, but thought I'd mention it. No idea what shipping would be though... I could weigh it and get a rough guesstimate..and i would ship if you wanted to deal. :)

It's tempting.  I'm trying to avoid converting to 5 lug just yet.  Mainly because I don't have an extra grand to throw on new wheels.  Plus I just bought new 4 lug rotors and drums and all new brake components.

I do have rotors that are machined for 5 lug and the original brakes for our cars so it is not out of the question to swap to 5 lug.  I will keep this in mind.

I also have TC axles that I'd throw in. They need studs, but in the end, you'd have 2 spare studs lol.

It has Sport backing plates (10 drum stuff) and I even have the original drums here. All the brake hardware, shoes and whatnot all goes with it also. So really, it could be either 4 or 5 lug, just swap the axles and drums. Trac Lock is good. I never beat on it too much on pavement, but the few times I did, it would grind off both back tires with ease.

If you can't find anything else closer that fits your needs....well, I'd rather someone use the whole thing in a 'Bird/Cougar than yanking the R&P and junking the housing...

Here is why I am in need of something different.  I went to the junkyard yesterday and pulled a ring off of a Ranger that was the correct gearing.  I swapped out rings but threw the carrier assembly back in without any change to the pinion or doing any backlash adjustment etc.  My vibration went away but I can tell the gears aren't meshing right so I will need to change out the rear.  I'm leaning more toward and 8.8 instead of rebuilding the 7.5.  If I do the 7.5 I just need the ring and pinion gears if I do the 8.8 I will need everything.  I am lining up a rear for when this temp perm fix breaks.

How did you break it? The 7.5 in mine is still fine.

I believe it broke because of loose drive shaft bolts.  That is the only thing that I can say would have caused it.  When I went to do the job all 4 driveshaft bolts were backed out more than a half an inch.  Needless to say they are red locktite'd now.

I broke two 7.5's in my 87 XR-7. That was from teenage shenanigans though. Burnout contests, drifting, etc. The second one broke just like yours. I started feeling it catching/clunking around corners. Seeing that pic brought back memories. For those who like British comedies, I felt like this:

Just ate up the gears that I finished putting in yesterday.  Looking for a whole 8.8 so I can call it done.  Want to have this thing running by this weekend.  Economy gears preferred but anything in Columbus Ohio area for a decent price will get my attention.

Well that will do some damage to the pinion bearing :hick:

I got super lucky so my time frame got extended.  The new gears I put in are not messed up.  Turns out my driveshaft u-joint let loose and that was the awful rear end shake.  So I got that fixed but I'm still looking to replace the rear.  I am going to look at a 7.5 with Trac-Loc and 3.08's tonight.  I may buy it but I'm not in a hurry now.
