Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR February 17, 2014, 05:23:54 PM Anybody have a hint of what type of hex head wrench works best to remove the inside hex bolt on the FPR of an 88 TC?I am having a time trying to get that bugger out.......because none of my Allen Wrenches fit on & still have room to turn more than about 1/64th of a turn at a time.Ron Quote Selected

Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR Reply #3 – February 18, 2014, 08:44:23 PM I changed mine yesterday using a regular 4mm allen wrench. It was fairly easy because I had the upper intake and alternator off. You might consider removing them to get it done. I can usually have the intercooler, intake, and alternator off in under 15 minutes. Quote Selected

Is there a gasket or anything that needs to be replaced when the upper intake is removed?Ron Quote Selected
Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR Reply #5 – February 20, 2014, 06:14:32 AM Be fore warned any regulator other than the stock one will eventually break the rail mount under the regulator and you will have a nasty fuel leak. I always modify the rail to prevent this. The bigger heavier regulators will do this and reinforcing the rail is a must. Just something to think about!!! Quote Selected
Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR Reply #6 – February 20, 2014, 10:15:32 PM Thanks for the tip Tom.What are the reasons that a person would want to use a heavier, larger regulator?I bought the replacement at Autozone, it is supposed to be like the original.Ron Quote Selected
Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR Reply #7 – February 21, 2014, 07:34:27 AM I have a Kirban Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator. No isses at all. I don't know that I NEEDED the Kirban piece, but at the time I needed a new FPR and it was new, and dirt cheap, so, why not? Quote Selected
Having trouble with hex heads on the FPR Reply #8 – February 21, 2014, 09:30:59 AM BUT!!!!!!!!!!! You do not have a 2.3 Vinnie. The 5.0 does not have that issue totally different setup. If it is a stock setup you are ok. But a heavier unit like a KIRBAN will split the rail on the mounting plate on a 2.3. Photo above is a 2.3. The poster has a 2.3 as i read it!!! Either way reinforcing the rail is a must when i do them. Cheap insurance. Quote Selected
