Too close to quitting time?

so im off to the post office making thier deadline of 4pm closing.
I am partially guilty of cutting too close because i was spending some time playing the "pay the bills game" tring to get about 6months ahead on all of them.

I arrive at the post office at 4 min till 4pm,
I say to the postal worker lady "can i please get a money order"... she has her jacket on, she's unplugging the modem thingy that swipes debit cards ect... and she says.......

"Nope, its too close to quitting time",, "sorry"

i look at the clock and its 3:56 and simply / sorta agree with her and i walk out saying i be back tomorrow.
I was trying to get that payment out for a grille sent to me.

sorry if this sounds kinda petty but the whole episode just rubbed me the wrong way.

This is the same lady who told me a couple weeks ago that the packages i have to pick up ,,, she asked me to come around and get them because they are too heavy for her.
They by no stretch of the imagination exeeded the typical bag of dog food or a box of kitty litter, both of which she obviously has to lift / buy for her pets.

our town being real small,,,,*REAL* small, this post office lady lives down over the hill from me. super nice lady and all but ,, why is it that sometimes just stupid like this bug people like me?

Yup same thing at my po the one lady won't lift a box over 10lbs and always has a aditude

If you can't do your job or you dont like it find another one

I actually have to side with the Post Office. it states that they CLOSE at 4. Not take business and stay for 15 minutes after 4. If they made an acceptation for one, they would for everybody. If 6 people showed up at 4 minutes til 4, you cannot close at 4. Sure, people could be a little more understanding, but, I know when my shift at work is over, I am ready to go home, too.

Not to start a fight, but I side with the customer.

When I worked in customer service, we had to serve until exactly closing time. Closing time was the end of the time that customers could enter the building, not quitting time. If a place closes at 5, I should be able to get full service at 4:55. If you want to stop serving the public at 4:55, close at 4:55. Sorry, it's a pet peeve for me. A couple places I worked, if we turned a customer away even a minute before close, we'd get reamed. We were allowed to remind people as they walked in, "we're closing in 5 minutes". But we pretty much had to deal with them. It always made the company money. If I had to leave a few minutes late, no big deal.

+1 Business is business, and when you deal with the public, you accommodate as best you can. Just good business and good sense. Banks lock their doors when its closing time, and anyone inside already gets full service until all are served.

There is no doubt in my mind that there is a weight stipulated in the union contract. If said packages are under that weight and she is not under medical care which states no lifting than that's just taking advantage.

3:56 was kinda late though. At the same time that can happen to anyone.....You make plans to hit a place and get hung up at work. Most places will accommodate.

Walk into a restaurant 15 minutes before closing and they will serve you. Been there, done that, and got out 2 hours after closing because of it. Got a $20 tip off it though. At 18 years old in 1994 working as a bus boy I'd say that was good.....

A couple of weeks ago I needed to ship a package and I arrived at a little country Post Office that I had never been to before in Remington, Virginia, just a couple of minutes after closing. My package was prepaid and I tapped on the door to show the lady inside what I needed and she very kindly opened the door and took the package from me. It all depends on the type of person you are encountering as to the kind of service you will get. A smile will get you a lot further too!

I can see this issue from both sides. As a customer, I try to never go to a place right at closing time. I know they are trying to get stuff done to get home to their family and I can appreciate that. However, the time a business closes and the time employees get to leave are two totally separate things. I have worked in a customer related job (pizza) for the last 16 years and we always schedule people at least 30 minutes past closing time. That's because we know sometimes people order food for delivery 5 minutes before closing time and they have that right. It's just part of the job.

I have to side with the customer on this issue.

when I did pizza delivery, lots of people would send orders in as soon as we closed. if the clock read 11:59, we took it. if it was 12:00 and the driver was out, we didn't.

well ,,,
so after telling the post office lady yesterday that i will be back tomorrow,,,
i show up at 12:30 and they are closed. for the holidays..................and yes there was a sign on the door stating this as well.

no post office till thursday...

rant over..im being a hard ass i suppose.
