trim removal and resto help

As anyone paying attention to my project thread nows, Ive started body work. Now I need to figure out removal of a few things and what people have done to restore others.

First is this trim on the door as I dont want to bend or break anything. Along with that the front window trim.

And for now last but not least, the quarter window trim. What are you guys doing to restore/impove the look of it. Mines got the rough cracked look, Ive got some ideas but wanted to see what others have done.

I took the easy way out and just masked off my door trim, refinishing the aluminum with SEM trim black. It is great stuff, holding up well.

I used flexible bumper repair from 3M on the quarter windows. It took several coats, but turned out well and is holding up.

I may just do that on the door trim to, but I would like to remove the windshield trim for paint for 2 reasons. 1 I hate the hardline that can be seen there if you dont and 2 its in need of a winshield anyways, it has a chip that was left to long and now its starting to delaminate at the spot.

Ill have to see if I can find the flexible bumper repair locally, Thats along the lines of one of my ideas!!

Yes masking has been established!!! LOL  But there is some places like around the Windshield trim that is impossible to make it look right without removing it. I hate hardlines where you can tell corners were cut. I actually had a glass guy give me a trick for hiding the one around the rubber trim on the back window!! Get a string under it, just big enough to lift the moulding so color and clear can go under it. Hardline hidden and the chance for the rear glass breaking during removal, removed from the equation!!!

On the side windows, clean it real well and hit it with some sandpaper, clean it again. Then start applying thin coats of the 3M stuff and wet-sand EVERY application. Eventually you will get it smooth as a babies butt. Apply a couple coats of SEM trim paint and wow your Ford friends!

It took several hours a side, but if you take the time they can look like new.
