low oil level sensor removal

i have my engine out of the car

I have a  harness going to the oil pan
there is a wire on the low oil sensor

how does this wire un plug?

will look at the shop manuals in a few but hope someone can chime in.

i have a replacement pan a member sold me but i think the low oil sensor has a broken connector.

If you look at the side of the sensor you'll see a little clip in the groove around the bolt head. Pop that clip out and the wire will just pull out of the sensor

within the 87shop manuals, there is no mention of the clip within the "removal" section.  ,, it is stupidly generic.

i found the clip.,, but.....

in order to remove the connector i had to come in snap ring pliers on either side of the round connector as its seated in the receptical.
when you spread the wire retainer,, you can then use a small jewlers screw driver to pry up on the clip on the exterior of the sensor housing itself.

I contemplated a mod to the housing of the sensor with a cut out knotch ,, that way i can just pry up on the clip.

this connection is too complicated.

if you have ever removed a transmission line, the same tool may work to spread the clip out and let you pull the connector out.

I ended up using two little screw drivers to get it out. I agree the connection is stupidly complex. I just removed the thing as mine was leaking from the connection in the center of the sensor. It was cheaper to get a bolt and gasket to plug the hole vs. replacing the sensor. It's funny but that  sensor likes to leak on most cars, causing a low oil level.

yeah, i saw that flaw,
i took mine apart out of the pan and examined it.
ended up inserting an oring inside the receptical.
when the connector is plugged in, it smushes the oring an seals it up.

Sorry for the threadjack, but is the low oil sender on the same harness as the ac clutch coil? On my 87, the other two wires from that harness were melted on the manifold when i got it, so i've always wondered what they were for. My car did have a low oil sender with nothing plugged in, so i assumed thats what they were.
Thanks,
Chris

in my son's tbird, the low oil wire harness was a home run from the area near all the fuse links down into the oil pan.

i can post the wire colors ,, cant recall them right now but its in the EVTM's below.
you should skin back the dressing on that wiring and id the colors, then you will know.

Wire colors were red and black, not the most useful for identification. I've tried to ID them using my EVTM before, and gave up. I just cut them off close to the plug and heat shrinked the ends when i rebuilt the a/c harness.

Plug is a black 4 pin, with two wires going to the A/C clutch coil. Also has an additional one pin grey plug ground. Located down below the coil in the massive tangle of wiring there.

there is a dead end flat shaped gray plug the goes nowhere near the hvac unit.

your sender wiring is clearly dospoogeented in the 87evtm

pages 134 and 136.
the colors are also described.

Yah, looks like it only has one wire and is the wrong color. I'm sure i've looked that up before, probably just forgot.

The wires in question come from the same 4 pin plug as the a/c coil. Two wires go to the a/c coil, and two were melted to the header. They were obviously in a plug at one point, as they have the ford plug terminals on them.

Not a big deal, just always wondered what they were for. I've since cut them off and heat shrinked the ends to prevent shorts.
