exhaust header to 2'' pipe

I had some problems with my existing 2'' exhaust flair mating properly to my BBK headers i had laying around.
I made this adaptor to force the two to mate together.
this should last for a while,, it will be my son's problem later on but he likes it.

saved a boat load of time on our recent engine swap by just making this small adaptor.

thoughts?

I went out asking various exhaust shops if there was such a part to adapt existing exhaust to a larger header and all of them said you cant do what i am suggesting, it will never seal.
well this is sealed just fine.

i found a exhaust adaptor that was a step up type, i cut off the areas on each end that i did not need.
I used a ball pene hammer to shape out the curvature to shape it to the header side.
i slotted the other end so it smushed down inside the 2'' exhaust pipe,, this part is now crimped up and smashed in between the connection.

i also tossed out the original header studs, drilled out the holes and installed stainless hardware for the connection, it will never rust.
we lost a lot of time contending with exhaust bolt connections but its all good now.

You see, that's why you have no place for your o2's.  With headers (like on HO) the o2 ports are on the h-pipe. You don't have one.  You should get one.  The cheap and easy is get a used one from a Mark VII and then get the intermediate pipes to match (new) and put them in the lers.  This will give you o2 ports AND let that GT40 setup breath better.  Otherwise, I really like the 2 1/2 non-cat unit I bought on summitracing for $140. I kept my 2" cat-back using the Mark VII intermediates.  If WV sniffs, then get one with cats.

ahh i see,
Scott the previous owner out in Utah mentioned this exhaust setup, he said he did not want an Hpipe because it got in the way down under doing work.... he decided on straights because the factory headers already held the 02's,, well these headers dont.
i recommended drilling these BBK's for the o2's but my son said hell no.

any disadvantage to having them plugged in for now but not inside the exhaust?

Yeah, if you don't get them in the exhaust stream it won't run right, especially at idle.  I'm surprised there has to be this much back and forth about it; they were in the exhaust stream before, they should be back there when you're done.  They're a critical element to the fuel calculation, and an electronic fuel injection system HAS to be getting a reading from them to manage it's fuel.  Drill a couple holes, weld on a couple of nuts and thread the buggers in.  I don't understand why it's even a question.  It's like questioning whether the whole idea of breathing air is just a big scam; yes, you need to breathe air, yes you need the o2 sensors connected and in the pipe.

i asked what are the risks, you answered.,, and they are connected like i mentioned.

mason has to have this done on his time back in charlottsville va, this is why i asked.
car idles smooth 900 rpm at hot temps and cold.

not everyone is stupid... some play dumb, some are afraid to ask any question.. thats not me.

Jay Grab a couple of metric nuts18X1.5 weld them to the piope and install your O2 Sensors. You need them as FOE explained. Other wise the ECM will institute a set O2 Calculation and that is NG. The SES will also stare you in the face. Can you run without them Certainly. Would i NEVER!!

DUDE i like that ADAPTER. It shows a sense of STYLE. Great little FAB, Carry on!!

Break out the MILLER produce a few wifs of OZONE a couple of sparks and your pipes are GOLDEN. Great job JAY. Now install the O2 sensors and carry on.

seems like this parallel thread is getting me in trouble... see other thread...
like i keep saying,,, the o2's are plugged in... cant seem to get a straight answer on the question.
even some sharp tacs at the dealer cant answer this.
