Oil flows from the main feed holes to the saddles and into the cam bearings via a slotted main bearing. At the back of the block, you will find a core plug (freeze plug) under the intake. One hole goes nearly straight down. The other is drilled at an angle. The one that goes straight down intersects all the way down to the main galley. Both of these holes intersect the lifter galleys. Lifters are oiled through these galleys and of course the springs and rockers are oiled through the push rods.
Are you sure you have the correct main bearings for this engine. Always save the old ones for comparison. Clearly you have a blocked passage to the lifter gallies. I remember this issue some time back and my mind just cant remember what was wrong??
Is the filter full of oil??? For some reason i remember a condition like this years ago and it was a block plug or a cam bearing or a main . Always check the oil passages on the bench before assembling an engine. I know you do not want to here this but it is a must. And always pre lube on the engine stand to pick up issues like this. I always save the old bearings and the location of the cam bearings in relationship to the block. Bottom line a passage is BLOCKED!! Good luck Tom
