Widest tire I can poke under 88 TC on factory rims?

Per the title, My car isn't lowered. I was looking at getting new rims but just bought a Quarter Horse and software so that set me back. Think I'll just buy some tires and run these rims for another year or two depending how long the tires last. Just curious what the biggest/widest tire I can run is without rubbing.

Are the ponies same dimensions as the factory TC rims?

Are the TC rims 16 x 8 ?

My car is at Dads and was wondering if someone knew off top their head, I ran through the google and didn't see it.

You are pushing a 255 width on an 8" wide wheel.  Any wider and it will balloon the tire and ride on the center portion of the tread.  Granted a taller side wall and low pressure will help out some but in the end it will wear uneven.

I'm just wanting a bit fatter then the 225 60 that is on there now, but was worried about rubbing on turns.

245/50/16 is a pretty popular size and should not have any issues with regards to turning clearance up front.

Both are 16" x 7"

'87-'88 TurboCoupe wheels are 16" x 7" and have a 5.25" backspacing (31.7mm offset).
'91-'93 Mustang "Pony" wheels are 16" x 7" and have a 4.87" backspacing (22 mm offset).

With them being 16x7 I would definitely stick with the 225's but run a lower profile like a 50.  You can run up to a 245 on the 7" wide wheel but its at the bottom of most manufacturer's recommended rim width.
