Distributor questions and info....

Alright, I picked up a 1990 351W distributor the other day. NOW, I'm guessing it will have to have a new gear IF I use it (may go with a billet distributor if possible). I'm supposed to use either a steel, or bronze gear.....correct?

I'll take any and all info related to the 351W swap.

Ask your cam supplier which gear to use, just to be on the safe side.  Those 351W EFI truck distributors are more reliable than the MSD billet too btw, only problem is they usually have an iron gear on them.. so swap a stock 5.0 steal gear on it.

'94-'96 351(except Lightning) used roller cam so require steel gear... Roller blocks can be identified by having a F4 casting number on side near starter...

Note AFAIK '94 & '95 Lightnings had the F4 block but used a flat tappet cam...

Thanks guys. Tom, this is a roller engine. I pulled the heads and intake, and low and behold.....roller lifters all nice and pretty sitting in there......it came from a '95 pickup.
