Car wiring/locations/colors questions September 13, 2012, 01:01:07 AM Does anyone know if the light green/yellow wire tees off and continues on to the radio/clock? Years ago mine caught on fire from the radio to the fuse panel (with a 10A fuse installed, not even the full 15A factory rating...) and during cleaning up the car wiring, I ran a new wire to the fuse box. It looks like the wiring may have gone from the fuse panel, to the light switch, to the radio, and finishing at the clock.I thought the copper strange coming out of the light harness were a bit large, but two wires coming off of it would have made sense. I rewired it with a green 14 gauge wire so hopefully that will never have an issue, even if something like a car stereo shorted it again. Also, yes, the EVTM is useless for this type of electrical question Quote Selected

Car wiring/locations/colors questions Reply #2 – September 13, 2012, 10:15:31 AM Thanks for the info. It's a shame I can't fit two larger wires in that connector. I may have to tee it off a couple inches down into the wire rather than at the connector pin, or enlarge the hole in the connector. Now I just need to clean up the ignition column and wiring in the kickpanel from the alarm install. I'm also surprised that anything smaller than 18awg costs a lot more then the 18awg wire I have (real copper too). I have to use 18awg wires for signal wires, even when some signal alarm wires look like they're only 24awg. Looks bad doing such a thing but I have 5500 feet of the stuff in many colors. Car wiring/locations/colors questions Reply #3 – September 14, 2012, 01:23:36 AM New question - is there a non-column location that is easy to tap into for ignition for my alarm? What about a non-column location for horn that isn't outside the cabin? I'm assuming there is a better place for ignition but nothing for horn.Driver side kickpanel is very clean now with the alarm wiring being improved at the light switch, and the door lock and pinswitch wires being taken from under the seat. Now I just need to get the ignition, horn, and sirens to finish up in the cabin for the alarm. After this, it's off to relocate and rewire the transmission computer. Also cleaned up the wiring for the foglights. I don't know WHY, but the foglight switch's ground was being run to the engine bay............... Quote Selected

Quote from: jcassity;398459the horn wiring travels down into the dash, if thats what you mean so yes.on the ign question,, do you mean "hot while in run"? or "in Start"?I ended up just piggybacking onto two pins in the column and wrapping them up with everything else. I got the kickpanels cleaned up and my transmission harness shortened. After mounting the TCS to the bottom of the console and plugging the harness and serial cable in, I believe the front wiring will be complete. Then it's time to run car computer wires, new speaker wires, and put the seats and panels back in the car until I can get to reupholstering everything.Edit:Oh, I also need to change out the mechanical voltage regulator in the cluster.
