Is anyone using the caster camber plates for thunderbird? I had them on my mustang with lowering springs worked great, if so what are some good ones to get, lower springs and plates?

Define "factory spring".

I've got '97 Stang GT springs, yet mine isn't lowered enough to need C/C plates. I think the magic number is around 2" of drop to need C/C plates...not every car is the same though. Might have a bit to do with what spindle/k member you're running.

I've got 94-95 spindles on mine, as well.

Ive got BBK caster camber plates. But in total... Ive dropped the nose of my car almost 3 to 3.5" inches on coilovers, GT 11" spindles, KYB 4ways, and a granatelli kmember kit. So I have NO IDEA how they would work out on a factory-ish car. I am kind of wishing I didnt buy the BBK's though. From what experience I have with them so far theyre tough to move around and adjust and bind up while doing so and both sides are exactly the same piece which struck me as odd. But theyre on the car!

I have been wondering about this also. When I took my car in for a front end alignment, they wanted to set my car up with a set of plates. My car front end is stock, at least nothing has been done to change the dynamics of it. The ones I found are about $170.00 for the set. I could see buying them if they would really make a difference on the life of my tires, but from what I have read if my car is stock they would not make much difference. Anyone?

I meant just a factory 83 thunderbird spring. See when I had my 89 and 93 stang, I used steeda springs whick lowered the car, so I put the plates on to help with alignment. I was just wondering if it would benefite running with the factory front set up. Not sure if I want to lower this car or not. Now in saying that are the lowering mustang springs ok to use?

99% of the front springs will work yes, the back ones are usually to soft (aftermarket wise) and will drag the tail of the car since ours are far heavier than that of a mustang.

Most of the people here on the board are running SN95 springs out of a 94+ mustang with great results.

To my knowledge, only Maximum Motorsports makes a set specifically the 83-87 Thunderbird/Cougar (see TOM's pic above). Mustang units are different.

The CC plates will make the alignments guy's day much easier and they will allow the correct camber and caster to be put into the front end. With the age of our cars they have a tendency to fall out of spec. Holler at John on http://www.chicane23.com and tell him I sent you and he should be able to give you a really good price on the MM CC plates.

Thanks Darren, nice 83 and 93. I had 79, 89 coupe, and 93 mustang. My mom has a 85 third v6 .

I just put new upper strut mounts/struts on my car (sitting on fox 'stang Steeda springs in the front). Taking it for an alignment today, I debated getting them but now wish I would have just ordered the MM plates and been done with it.

That being said, my alignment guy has never seemed to have had a problem getting it aligned properly.

What struts did you get, Mustang ones or stock ones for our cars?

I have Mustang spindles and used Chuck W rear shock adapters so I could go with Mustang shocks/struts. I went with Tokico "blues" and I love them so far!

You need to run the SN95 front struts if the car is not lowered. If it is lowered 1"+ then go with the Fox struts.
