Is there a place you can order exact matching paint for our cars. I have a few areas i have sanded down to fix some surface rust and would like something close enough that it doesnt stick out too bad until i can strip and paint the whole car. Thanks for any input guys!

I suppose i could go that route. Ill need to get a better gun before i decide to do that. Im fairly new to body work and painting but i figure if you take your time and no short cuts it should come out nice.

I am sure you already know this but just to make sure:

You will not get any paint to be an exact match to the twenty year old paint on your car (assuming it is still the factory paint). The factory paint has done some serious fading by now and even if you had it professionally blended to the next panel it will probably still be somewhat noticeable. I just don't want you thinking you are going to find an exact match and be disappointed when it isn't exact. Best of wishes on your repairs! :D

have your gas cover scanned when you get paint, along with the paint code

Plan on leaving the gas door for a few days so they can try to match it.

Yea im trying to get as close as possible for now. I know nothing will be perfect. Just dont want to be rolling around in primer the rest of summer. Thanks!

auto paint shops in my area will mix and fill you a shaker can not the best spray but it can work if you know how to paint.

Yes the place I used t mix paint at did this also. I will add that the price was very steep. It was like $15-$20 a can depending on color. Then the paint that we mixed to put into a can is that same paint we used to make touch up paint. Not the worst paint but not the greatest either. I tell you will save yourself hassle if you even go with a harbor freight $20 gun to get into it. You get so much more paint for your dollars. Depending on what you buy depends on how you mix it but when you by a quart of paint you end up with much more than a quart by the time you reduce it down. I used to sell 2qts when people wanted to paint the whole car/truck once they mixed it with the required 2qt of reducer and additives they have just over a gallon.

All good info thanks guys. You recommend syphon or gravity feed? I have always used syphon but would like to try gravity.

I actually use a husky gravity feed hvlp gun for cabinet finishing.... it's a decent gun for $50, and I don't have to worry about ruining it for that price either.

Gravity, They're easier on the wrists/arms/shoulders when spraying the roof, hood and trunk lid (if the 2 are still on the car). Either way, try to get the smallest tip you can. Like a 1.2 for the clear & 1.3 for the base because they atomize the paint/clear better. I have a Devill Bliss starting-line gun with a 1.3 and to get it to atomize the clear real good I have the fluid needle 1 1/8th turn out and overboost the air pressure to 35 psi at the gun. Yeah ill have pics up as the work goes on. Thanks for all the good info. This winter I think ill be swapping to rust free doors and ill be all set to squirt the whole car... idk if i want to stick with the color thats on it or go a completely different route.
