Air Silencer Removal Question July 25, 2012, 08:42:27 AM I have an 88 Cougar LX 5.0 and would like to remove the air silencer. Does this require removing the whole box located inside the fender well, or is there a chamber inside the airbox that needs to be removed? And what is the correct procedure? Thanks! Quote Selected
Air Silencer Removal Question Reply #1 – July 25, 2012, 10:09:49 AM I had the interior airbox out since I was painting the engine bay....so that's how I did it. Got my silencer out without having to cut up any of the pieces. Quote Selected
Air Silencer Removal Question Reply #2 – July 25, 2012, 01:12:15 PM Open the airbox under the hood and remove the air filter. Unbolt the silencer from the inner half of the airbox and let the silencer/snorkel drop down inside the fender. Pull it out from the bottom. Its a tight fit, but it wiggles out. Then stand there and wonder what the cost was for the abomination in your hand, its only purpose to quiet intake air noise. Quote Selected

Air Silencer Removal Question Reply #6 – July 25, 2012, 11:15:08 PM Just completed it tonight-a bit of a PIA. Had to take out side marker light and a few fasteners to the wheel well to get it out - but its out. Didn't sound any different, but a couple of HP is a couple of HP! Quote Selected
