firewall water leak

I have a 1979 Thunderbird which has developed a water leak on the right hand side of the car, where water enters the the footwell, from under the dash, and drips onto the passenger's feet.  I suspect a plugged drain but do not know exactly where it is.  I've located a center drain in the cowl but don't see a drain on either side of the car.  Are these located under the fenders or inner fenders?  Can anyone help?  Thanks kindly.  Rob

Sounds like a heater core, is the water hot or antifreeze? If not it could be the drain hole for the AC, not sure on the 79 model where that is though.

Thanks for your reply friend.  But I don't believe either of these is the reason for my leak.  Water enters the car when it rains, or even when I wash the it. Does not matter if the car is running or not. There is no hot water or water containing antifreeze. Water enters with or without the heater or AC running. I feel it's a body drain that is plugged...just have to try to figure out where the elusive drain is. Gonna see if I can track it today. Thanks again!  Rob

If the car has chrome trim around the windshield, take it off and check for rust holes.

Thanks, softtouch.  But your suggestion turned out not to be the issue.  After today's investigation, what I found was much worse than I imagined.  The top of the firewall, on the right side of the car was completely rotted out.  Interestingly, the drains were clear.  This was barely visible when I removed the plastic grillework from the cowl and peered inside.  I decided to cut away some of the cowl to get a better look, and that is when I saw the extent of the damage.  I suspect this area has been deteriorating since the car was new, as in my opinion, this area was poorly designed and did not allow water to drain away.  I will need to remove the windshield, hood, fender, inner fender and some heater components to get adequate access to repair, but for now I will attempt a temporary fix.  Thanks again!  Rob
