New torque converter problems....

I just had a new billet aod torque converter made for my cougar, the shaft that goes into the converter is too small. Is this an an aode converter? Or am I missing something.

If you had it made for the cougar, you'd think it would fit?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yup it is for an aode. Here is what the guy said.

Hello Daniel,

I see what happened, you ordered the #60 Track Dominator which is for an AODE and or an AOD with the AODE shaft swap. The builder assumed you had Swapped the shafts out already in your AOD so this is why you ordered the AODE converter. With the problems you have been having with cooling as mentioned in the email he said he didnt think twice about it because its a common swap to have done in your situation with high HP and cooling issues. He said your comment about the plain ol built aod with 5K shift kit from transgo was like slang for saying its BUILT and not STOCK form because a STOCK unit would not have a 5K shift kit from transgo in it.

Thank you, Kerry
Owner

They are not answering the phone anymore. Seems they have washed their hands of it. I never mentioned aodE  at all. So now the next question is....

Where do I get the aode conversion kit for my aod??

I got an apology email from Kerry. It looks like I will save the converter for when I get another aod built with aode guts and wide ratio gear set. Just sucks, I got a lot of parts here from mishaps like that:(

His cell phone wasn't working that was why he couldn't take my calls

Generally a custom part is something that is designed specifically for yyour application.

Not your fault they sent you the wrong part or the guy fat fingered the check boxes...

no I didn't just order it, I phoned first and told the guy I was running a plain ol aod built with a 5k shift governer and transgo shift kit he said which one to get online cause he was on his cell phone, then they built it. I never mentioned aode at all. That is what the guy told me to get. I didn't even think about reading the description because I thought they were building the converter for my aod because that is what I said I had....

stupid currenly rules,,,
any good company would do thier due diligence and verify the application.  They are the experts and if they had cared at all, they would not have assumed anything.  they know  well there were no fox body (83-88) coug/birds factory equipped with an aode, they surly to god have books / ref manuals to verify this.  I read your comments about a shift kit and i know that has nothing to do with the input shaft size,,so why didnt they know?
your answer........ they could care less.

regardless, its thier mess up only if you provided the year, make, model of your car and a little information on the shift kit but the shift kit info was just extra info they really didnt need.

you can be ok with it and call it no big deal but i call it a bad transaction and they should make it right.

I never heard of the AODE shaft swap but I'm guessing it is the one piece shaft with no lockup? Check here

I never heard of it either until yesterday. I gave full vehicle information before ordering. 2 different emails they asked questions before building it. It is fine, I was planning on getting a built aode with manual shift anyways, but it gets pricey and frustrating at times.
