The Thunderbird and Cougar were built in Lorain, OH from 1983-88. There was also separate production in Atlanta, GA in 1985 only.

I have never found information about the last Fox Cougar or Thunderbird made, but it's possible that there would be an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer from the era. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I live about an hour from the Lorain plant and that info was not in our local newspaper (or carried by news syndicates).

Production numbers for Thunderbirds are here:

You do have one of the later ones, although I'm not sure when production actually stopped. Usually it was the July/August timeframe but production may have run over since the 1989 cars weren't sold until December of that year.

1989-97 production was also in Lorain. In 1997 some additional cars were also built in Wixom, MI.

Eric,

1983 and 1984 TBirds were also built in Atlanta. Not sure about Cougars.

Only 109,000 Birds including base and heritage models...... with the dwindling numbers and the historical value of the importance of the new body design, i think these cars are going to rise in value soon.....just to compare the numbers for a car line from Ford like the 1970 Torino, look at how many of these cars were built only 13 years earlier...... its also why parts are easier to source on a 40+ year old car than a 30 year old car.

That list makes me squirm, we junked a Ranchero with a factory 351C 4V so I would assume that it was a GT?
...and there was light!
