Parts interchangeability for '88 T-bird and '83-93 Mustang?

I drive an '88 T-bird LX which (considering I've owned and mistreated it for going on six years now) runs remarkably well, but some of the less-essential bits are starting to wear out - the hood release cable, to be precise.  The plate is shot, and the cable itself has seen better days, although for the moment the whole thing still works.  I'd like to replace it before it actually breaks, but I can't find one for this specific car, or for the Cougar or Mark VII.  I can, however, find about a bajillion (for prices ranging from not-bad to waaaaaay-too-much) for the Mustang, anywhere from '83 to '93.  As these were also built on the Fox platform, am I correct in assuming that a cable meant for one or any of those will work fine in the T-bird?  I'd like to be sure before ordering the part.

If it's not interchangeable, what are my other options?  Are there any other vehicles I should be on the lookout for, or is there a way to patch the one I already have back together?

I'm also having issues with my trunk latch (the electric release works fine, but the latch won't release using the actual key), but that's rather lower on the priority list and I haven't really spent much time looking at it.  As long as I'm here, though, any thoughts on the possible issue(s) or where I might be able to find a replacement part (if necessary) would be great.  (The local junkyards apparently don't have anything remotely close.)

Any suggestions you can offer would be very much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

check out the for sale section.. someone's usually parting a car out and you can pick up good stuff from there. if no luck, post a wanted ad in the 'wanted' section.. a lot of us d parts left and right, go to clean out the shed/garage/shop and realize we have multiples of random odds and ends.. someone's bound to have what you need..

on that note.. WELCOME!

Pretty sure the Mustang hood release is different, as it mounts more the center of the dash under the column.

The trunk...sounds like you just need a new lock unit, new key etc. Probably a dealer-only thing there, for a new one.

If you can locate someone that builds emergency brake cables they may be able to reuse the sheath and put a new cable with the correct ends in it.  Just a thought as I have not explored this much.

Dorman has all kinds of stuff in the help section at most autoparts stores:

An Sn95/New edge hood release cable will work for you.  I've had on in my cat for a few years now.  Looks stock.
