There is where YOU can buy some R12 :D. The one, $20 per can is maybe a little above market value but for $40 I think you'd have enough to charge your whole system.

No laws about oil changes as long as you send it to a reclaimer. And no license to do it. AC BIG DIFFERENCE. Mucho fines. By the way it is illegal to but R12 if you dont have a license. People selling freon on line need a license as well as the buyer. So i gave you the info all i am saying ids be careful

Example i had a visit from the inspectors some time ago from the DEP. I was on the roof of my building because one of the AC condensor fans washiznitting the cover and making a racket. I removed the cover straightened it out and fixed the issue. A local store owner dropped a dime on me and bingo out came the boys with the badges. I had to show them all my licenses and equipment and all my guys had to also. So dont trust anyone when it comes to FREON. Not to mention the reward the dime dropper gets. Be careful work on whatever you want but do it where some tree hugger cant see you. Thanks

If it was illegal for the average joe to to convert/recharge 134A they wouldn't sell the shiznit at wal mart.

I've recharged my '94 Caprice twice...yes, probably has a leak. Since it's pr0ne to sitting for awhile between runs (gotta love those goded Optispark distributors, heh) I'm not too terribly concerned with getting the leak identified.

My Sport, whenever I get it done whichever century that may be...will be retrofitted to 134A....won't need a shop to "reclaim" anything, because when I took the original HVAC stuff out, all the freon was long gone...seems a cut low pressure hose isn't conducive to keep gaseous materials in a contained state.

IF your system is already devoid, just get the kit from orielly's, wal mart, whereever.....you don't need a witch doctor or $1,000 machines....now, if you live in a crowded city, and still have freon in there...well, it's against the law to copy movies, but people do that too....use your judgement here. lol

not to worried about the fines if cops don't bust the dealers were i stay i doubt they'll bother me

ok so im guna try to just refill my ac with r12 but i think theres caps or something missing im not sure

You are correct no cap and by the way that is a hefty fine not to have a cap on that fitting. Just stating the law i know i am being DUMB but it is the truth.

You definitely have a R12 system their. Low and high side fittings on the compressor are the give away. R134A has acme fittings. But you can get 134A with r12 fittings!!!!

Not true you can top oiff a system and definitely buy the stuff for now. This is going to change real soon.Basically you said you topped off a leaky system Correct!!! That is 100% legal and because you did not open or evacuate or bleed the system down you are OK. But conversion is different. Like i said i dont care what people do i am not a tree hugger cop. Just use you head and be discrete. YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

Here's all the info you need on legal/illegal refrigerant. 608 and 609 sales are different, but 608 can do anything where 609 is strictly automotive related. Mechanics will have a 609 certification, everyone else will be 608 I, II, or III.

BTW, many people have been talking about 134a being banned for quite some time and it's just rumor.

Tom is correct though. Don't get caught; you will get in trouble and you'd be surprised who is watching.
