Here's a funny story for you February 27, 2012, 08:02:51 PM About the dumb things kids do and worry about. When I was in Tech School (more than a few years ago), there was a kid in my class named Rodney Kirk. Rodney Had an Iroc Camaro that he swore was the baddest, fastest car around. He loved coming to school and telling the rest of us in the class his latest and greatest kill story about the most recent car he (claimed) he smoked while he was out driving around. I never will forget; one day we all showed up for school and Rodney, who was normally gregarious and outgoing was staying way off in the corner by himself. When any of us tried approaching him to see what was wrong, he made it clear that he just didn't want to talk. You would have sworn his mother had died, or something. He was kind of quirky, but we all liked the guy and wondered what was wrong. When the next day rolled around, we gave him until lunch time to mope around and then made it clear we weren't gonna take no for an answer. We HAD to know what was wrong with him. When he started sharing his story with us, he was talking slowly. The words were obviously painful for him. As he got further and further into his story, he started talking faster and faster. It almost seemed therapeutic for him to get what was bothering him so much off his chest. This all happened back when Chevy was still churning out Iroc Camaros. I never did see Rodney's car, but I know it was a blue one, it came with a 350 from the factory and it had been modded with a cam, intake and some other mods. Now! For the story... LOL!The afternoon of the day before Rod showed up to school so depressed, he was out crusing around in his pride and joy. Somewhere on the outskirts of town, he pulled up to a red light and was sitting there, waiting for it to change. He said he had been waiting for the light to change when he heard this deep rumble and whing sound coming from behind him. He was in the center lane and looked in the rear-view to see a Nova with a big ole noisy roots-style blower sticking out of its hood was pulling up next to him. I don't know why he did, but true to form, he asked the guy if he wanted to run 'em. The guy said "sure." Poor Rodney. When the light changed, Rodney launched his Iroc as hard as he could. He always said that if he could get his nose out in front of someone he was racing, the race was over, because no one could pull on him. Well... True to form, after he had launched, he said he looked out the passenger side window to see how he was doing. About that time, he heard a really loud roar and an insane wining sound. In an instant, he said a front wheel came into view as the guy in the Nova blew past him like he was standing still. He was almost in tears as he was telling us this and we were all doing our best not to bust out laughing at him for being so foolish. After it went by and he had a chance to take a good look at it (from behind) he said it was definitely a full Pro-Street car. It was tubbed and even had a parachute for heaven's sake!!!I'll never know for sure, but I think that incident took away his interest in street racing. Street racing is bad enough, let alone when you have cars doing wheel stands to boot.I hope you enjoyed this story as much as we all did that day when he told us what had happened. Kids sure do dumb things. Quote Selected
Here's a funny story for you Reply #1 – February 27, 2012, 09:40:43 PM Not that we condone street racing...wow that is like bringing a broken stick to a gun fight....When I was 22 I had an 89 auto SC. It was at the time my fastest car....all 15.5 @90....haha. I lost a street race to a guy I knew with a 84 cutlass with a 350 rocket with some stuff done. At take off it was pretty close but by 30mph he was kicking my butt. I was so depressed just like Rodney. I sold my SC within 2 weeks and bought 87 GN with a chip. I needed a faster car....Ran into the same guy about a week later. The basically stock 14 flat GN kicked the rockets butt....:) Funny thing with that GN....it was a terrible car....It was the first car I modified...before the internet was really there to help you...think 1997....it was bad. Spent a small fortune on that car....grrh.Memories.....Travis Quote Selected
