New Head/Factory Amp? December 11, 2011, 03:57:21 PM I took the factory EQ out of my 88 TC and want to install a new head unit. I want to still use the factory amp though. I searched for a write-up on how to do this, but didn't find one. Does anyone know if setting things up that way is possible? Quote Selected

I know when I put an aftermarket head unit in my T-bird (9+ years ago) they had an adapter harness that plugs into the factory harness. You have to unplug the factory amp (behind the rear seat). The speaker wires will still work and you'll get sound through all 6 speakers. Quote Selected

I havent messed with the factory wires in a while but I believe the door speakers and dash speakers are wired together with the premium sound. Quote Selected

The real music when driving that car is what comes out of the tailpipes. I do though want to have at least a serviceable stereo system in the car. It doesn't need to be fancy. Actually, I'd REALLY like to install a factory Ford stereo in the car that has an integrated CD player, instead of a cassette deck like what the car came with. That way I wouldn't have to worry about removing any faceplate. Noone would bother stealing an older factory Ford stereo. Do you know of one with a CD player that would work in our cars?
