rattling that couold be pre-ignition and smoke....!!

The Bird's been having issues with a metallic rattling during acceleration...only able to hear it right before you get towards the higher rpms(no tach installed yet, so don't ask what rpms...waiting for it to arrive). Now today I hooked up a vacuum gauge to diagnosis if the valvetrain had any issues....tested good at 53. But then I looked over at the dipstick and smoke was puffing through, and I've been having issues with my valve covers and air filter being covered in oil. My first assumption was my rings are shot at the least...whats your take/advice. I found a rebuild kit on summit that I was looking at doing this spring anyways since funds are tight due to christmas...but that might not be able to wait now.

Car is an 85 base 5.0 aod, 3.08 open rear. cfi....only mods are audio and the intake snorkel fell off lol.
