5.0 Oil Change September 18, 2011, 08:09:54 PM Was about to do an oil change and noticed 2 drain plugs on the oil pan. One seems to be the main one in the center and another one on the front of the pan. Can't find anything about it. Do both need to be drained? Silly question - but I have never seen an oil pan with 2 drain plugs before. Quote Selected
5.0 Oil Change Reply #1 – September 18, 2011, 08:34:45 PM Yes they both have to be drained , also you should loosen the filter before reinstalling the plugs , it helps to purge the last little bit of oil out of the pan . Quote Selected
5.0 Oil Change Reply #2 – September 18, 2011, 10:01:44 PM Fox body cars have a front and rear sump oil pan to allow for the K-member I believe. Always remove both plugs and loosen the oil filter like mentioned above, or you might think you were running your car low on oil by not getting it all out. Quote Selected

5.0 Oil Change Reply #5 – September 19, 2011, 01:14:09 AM The oil filter has a check valve to prevent the oil in the distribution system from draining back to the pan. When you loosen the filter, the oil drains back.If this valve is not working the valves may clatter until the oil gets pumped up when you start the engine. Quote Selected
