EATC Info?

My car is running nice, so I wanted to get the AC up and running so i can enjoy it more often. The previous owner had a rigged up rocker switch on the dash, taking power from the stereo circuit, and energizing the AC clutch. As far as I could tell, he didnt cut any EATC wires. I removed the switch, and connected the ac clutch wiring to stock.

My mechanic is telling me the clutch wont engage with freon in the system, and the low pressure switch is good. The EATC lights up and seems to be working, starts the fan, etc. Could it otherwise work, but not send the signal to engage the clutch?

I have a junkyard extra I may go grab from home at lunch. Any ideas? These guys are good honest mechanics that I use when im lazy, or dont have the tools or time, but sometimes they get locked up on my projects that have been modded, etc.

Edit

None of the eatc codes on cool cats lead me to believe it could cause this issue. most of those codes are about the actuator doors not working etc.

Mine wasn't working when I first bought it. Turns out after a bunch of checking the WOT cut off switch by the air box was stuck in the off position. I replaced it and vola the A/C works.

Mechanic is saying its the module behind the glovebox.

I'm assuming that's a yard item. He can't get one for less than $500, which is full retard.

Well, snagged one for $3 off a vinyl topped "black cat" Cougar I have taken a few other small parts off of. These guys(Houston Junkyards) need to buy a few more foxes, and quick.

Worked like a charm. The compressor sounds a little rough. A fair amount of bearing noise. Man, Ive got a baby due in six weeks. Im trying to get this thing to the point I can enjoy it without putting a bunch of time into it, because i know my hands are going to be full here shortly. If its not in good running condition when the kiddo hits the ground, it might sit awhile.

Mechanic highly recommends against a rebuilt compressor. A new one +drier, etc will end up being $500.

Would it be difficult to replace the bearings in the factory compressor? Or would you guys roll the dice on the factory one lasting six months +?

I had a '86 Grand Marquis with a compressor that was so noisy you could hear it from across the street... I had to change the evaporator because of a leak and also replaced the compressor with a good(quiet)used I had on hand... Every thing was flushed and it was recharged with 134A and new oil... Well that compressor lasted all of maybe three weeks... Sooo I said the Hell with this, threw the original noisy compressor back on and charged it again with 134A... That noisy POS was still cooling just fine three years later when I sold the car, go figure...
