1983 2.3 ltr turbo coupe

when i'm cruising in any gear at about 2500 rpm it misses,spits and sputters. When the boost kicks in it runs great. It is a new motor with less than 1000 mi.
All the sensors have been replaced any ideas what it might be?

could be plug wires, but I think I had a problem once after putting in a 255lph fuel pump that the Fuel pressure regulator was having too much pressure making it spit and sputter, but thats also when the plug wires went on it.  So far the only plug wires these engines seem to like are MSD's and motorcraft.

Great fuel pressure regulator, and it bolts right up to the 2.3t

The regulator posted above does not fit the early Turbo coupe setups. Early turbo coupes have 2 pumps one in the tank and one on the rail. You have to make sure both are working properly. You can switch to a 255 and remove the rail pump but the dual pump setup is better or at least equal to a 255. Sounds like ignition and never use MSD Ignition wires on a TFI ignition system. Use motorcraft ignition parts only and gap the plugs at .030 Good luck Tom

Sorry to be a downer here But yes that Kirban FPR does fit the early model turbo coupes. IT is the same part for the EFI 5.0's bolts right on the rail in place of the stock unit. The number of fuel pumps has nothing to do with witch FPR you use on the T/c's. Yes 83-84's had the dual pump setup that just means you need to check and make sure they are working. The small in tank pump is called a lift pump is lifts the fuel to the real pump that really pumps up the pressure. Also I've had luck with many different brands of plugs wires as long as they are 8mm and not the cheapO's I've had pretty good luck with them.

Long day at the SHOP i was thinking of the PULSATOR. I stand corrected  the 2.3 all take the same regulator. Not the same PULSATOR. Yes the intank Bosch pump is a low pressure lift pump that feeds the rail high pressure pump. Sorry i read the post INCORRECT. LONG DAY at work . Thanks for the correction.

Note the low presure pump can be used on CARB JOB ENGINES very effectively. They run 6-7 lbs and very reliable units. THANKS STUCKMAN > WATCH MY POSTS I AM GETTING OLD. Thanks Tom
