Focus light switch....

O.K., for you guys that know me, you know I hate electrical stuff, but, I have a question....I have a Ford Focus light switch with integrated fog lamp switch. The wires are much smaller than the ones to our light switches in our Foxes. Can it be adapted if I find out what wires go to what function? Like splicing wires from the factory harness to the Focus switch?

The Focus switch has 10 wires. I haven't looked at my factory plug yet. I could, find a harness plug with enough wires to make a plug to go between the two. Any ideas or knowledge would be great.

It looks like this, but with the fog light function integrated into the rotating switch............

If anyone can get the colors and function of each wire from each switch, that would also rock. Yeah, I am asking a lot.

I'm not sure yet. It may not happen. I have the switch, and thought I may give it a try....maybe. It may not be feasible, but I figured I'd do some asking around, see what I can find out, then weigh the "worth" of it....if it's mostly painless.

I would think you could make it plug and play. Take apart an old used Headlight switch and use the base the plug plugs into. That way the harness will plug right in. Then use the base of the old switch and attach your new Focus harness to the old switch base. Then if you ever needed to you could still use the original switch. Not sure on the wiring colors but sure someone on here can help or just dig out the chilton/haynes manual and dig thought the diagrams you should be able to find what wire goes to what.

Hoping to help

This 02 Focus diagram shows that the headlight switch provides power to either the low or high beam relay. Relays use much less power than the lights. If your car has not been modified, it does not use relays. The Focus switch may not be heavy duty enough to replace your switch,

That's what I was wondering. No big deal. It was just an idea. With body work and the body mods coming up, I have plenty to keep me busy. Thanks for the info.

Tell ya what Vin just bring both them cars down here and I'll get it fixed right up for ya.;)

yes I'm sure it could relatively easily be done but it would be complicated for someone who doesn't know wiring very well. It's pretty straightforward there's just a lot of stuff to keep track of. The stock headlight switch has 8 wires and this one has 10 well I'm thinking everything is basically the same but with the two extra wires for the fog lights so all you would have to do is reroute them. But you would have to test every wire with a test light or at least have the wiring diagrams for both cars first though. After that it would just be simple (yet painful) matter of cutting of you're stock wiring harness and splicing all the wires from your car into the wiring harness from the Focus switch. If you ever get around to actually wanting to do it for real, then let me know and I can help you through it. Like I said, its shouldn't be terribly complicated as long as you label or at least chart everything and you don't mind spending 2 hours on it.

I'll keep the focus light on the shelf for another day. I like the idea, but not enough to put a lot of effort into it right now. I have to get this car underway with the sanding and mods. I need it done by September....I may not make it, but I'll try my best.

Cool. Well let me know when you get around to it later on if you do. I'm rather intrigued by the idea.

I still want to do it, but I need to make sure what wire goes where, the relay situation, what it would take to get the switch to work with my harness (getting a plug between my harness and the light switch is easy.). I just wonder about the power from the harness and is it too much for the switch to handle. Stuff like that. I don't want to go into the project until I have definitive answers.

you can easily add any necessary relays to your existing wires if you need to.
