Carb choice

Gettin the plans for the summer rebuild figured out and im pretty set on a thermoquad carb. I want something different and I think itd be pretty cool to get over 10 mpg in town (when im goin easy) and still have a monster when i want one. I have read up on them and theres an adapter plate you can buy from edelbrock but im wondering if this will affect performance in any way? If anyone has any experience with these carbs itd be great to get some input on them.

There are alot of different carburetors and setups out there.
I tend to stay away from setups that need adapters to fit. But that is just me.
Thermoquads, Carter and Q jet's all work well on stock motors.

Why not just get on Edelbrock carb, bolt on and go?  Same prinl with the correct bolt pattern....no adapter needed.
