You can get some plasti-kote bumper trim spray paint. It's not super glossy and it's not flat either. Use masking tape to tape off the edges around the trim and the glass. Then split open some trash bags and cover the car to protect from overspray. I did this for the trim that is on my doors but did not spray the trim on the front or rear windshield. I brushed that on and sanded lightly to take out any brush marks.

It's Gumby's fault.

ENOS YOU DIPSTICK! :p

(the pic merited that.. hah)

In all my messing around, I've pretty much figured out that you can use whatever paint you want with a little prep work, like a good taping and simple covering (I use newspaper.. and the overspray sometimes gets on the car, but by the time it gets past the newspaper to the car's surface the paint has dried and it's just a colored dust you can wash off easily. Just don't go overboard spraying past the target area. As always, YMMV and proceed at your own risk) and a light scrub with an abrasive pad or sandpaper or whatever.

The first paint work I did to my '86 still looks smooth after almost a year now, but since it was cheap Wal-Mart flat black, it has now faded probably to a light charcoal color. I painted the bumper strip, the headlight cups, (already repainted gunmetal) and the B-pillar/back of door trim pieces. I am going to do it over again soon because of the fading, and I'm either going to match it with the DupliColor Truck/SUV paint in gunmetal, use more of the DupliColor Textured Metallic in graphite, (what I just used on the bumper strip of the '88) or get some of the DupliColor 500 degree engine paint in gloss black and use the 500 degree engine clearcoat on top of it. (I really love that stuff, it seems to hold up well in the sun down here)

I would not hesitate to use any of those colors even over rubber/plastic/whatever. They've physically held up well on bumper strips and stuff like that. No flaking or peeling or whatever.

I coated mine in dupli color truck bed coating. The stuff is tuff and it looks good. To make it really good I put some tire shine on it. I took the trim off the car when I did it and coated all sides now its rust proof too! Also with the thick coating you get in two coats any chips are now invisable. It just is the thickness of the truck liners stuff not that I caked it on. I couated my whole chasis in the stuff. Like I said it is tuff stuff. I was also thinking about when I paint the car useing the truck bed coating from the Side modeling down.

On all of the greenhouse moldings we use SEM trim paint, the same company that makes uv resistent interior paint. We have been using it for the past 7 or 8 years. It holds up excellent and matches perfect.
