took the capri to the track this week

decided to stop messing with the new jimmy and take a trip to atco.. first run was at 10psi and it launched horribly.. spooled fine in pre-stage.. hit the staging lights, light went green, let off the brake and it fell on it's face,  near stalled.. so i had to let off, and let the boost rise as i was running down the track.. my wideband read fine all the way down through the traps, so i figured it was timing.. second run did the same thing but i paid more attention to the wideband when i launched and it went sky high rich.. so i decided it was a carb problem so i switched out the holley to my eledbrock.. 3rd run(2nd slip) was at 5psi.. launched great and pulled hard off the line and the A/F gauge read normal from the launch and down through the traps.. needless to say, my holley has serious issues..

so, later today i'm going to run to the shop and grab my needle/jet kit for my edelbrock, make a few 'launches' in an empty parking lot and try dialing in at 10psi, then 12 or 14.. but all in all, i can't complain too much for being it's first time out at the track.. hopefully if i go again soon, i can either get someone to go with me to take pics or video

car number 364, right lane on both slips

whoops.. slips are backwards.. the 11.743 run was at 10psi and falling on it's face

anyway.. i took it out to an abandoned parking lot about an hour and a half ago after changing jets and needles.. pulled HARD with .083 jets, but a bit lean at 12psi.. changed to .098's (i'm missing jets, so they were the next step up in my assortment) and turned the controller up to 14lbs.. ran pretty rich so i went up on boost again to 16.. almost perfect on the A/F mixture and i nearly soiled my pants when i launched at 2500.. needless to say, i think i'm getting kicked out of atco on tuesday for running under 10.5 without a certified cage, unless i can't get it to hook off the line LOL.. it actually held 16psi pretty nicely on the ride home so i may leave it there for a few days and see what happens

What u have for turbo size and are your carbs blow through or just regular carbs??? Im installing a .75 garrett turbo setup on my 351 in my bird and have a few questions about this stuff. Im gonna run a msd-btm and billiit dist, its a pretty stock windsor and dont want alot of power but enough to play on the street.
Prob 7-10psi and it will live on stock head gaskets?????  Blowoff valve, wastegate???  what ya got???  Good place to get carb hat???

Do you plan on putting a turbo on the 351C? That would be SWEET!
You can get a carb hat from Jegs or Summit racing.

just got back from the track running my edelbrock 800.. my holley blowthrough has serious issues, i had someone look at it tonight.. the valve body for the secondaires is screwed beyond belief.. but i ran 16psi with no air/fuel issues (nothing i couldn't adjust by jetting).

but as for the rest of my turbo setup.. it goes as follows..

- 57mm Garret
- GReddy b.o.v.
- HKS boost cont
- ebay fmic
- spectre carb hat

and the motor is as follows..

- dart iron block
- SCAT 408 kit with KB FHR pistons
- dart iron heads(don't know which 1's, they came with the motor)
- custom grind cam
- RPW steel 1.7 roller rockers
- comp cams springs
- edelbrock victor jr intake
- edelbrock 800cfm carb
- modified hooker mid-length headers

anyway.. i only got to make 3 passes today.. i reached my life goal, getting kicked out for running too fast :D

1st run, 11.37.. 10 psi and running a tad rich, spun at the line and in 2nd
2nd run, 10.41.. 16 psi, spun bad off the line, tried pedalling it, didn't grip til the 60ft mark or so
3rd run.. wait for it.. waiiiiiiiit.. 9.92!!!.. a friend of mine had been running and was calling it quits for the night, so i asked to borrow his wheels/tires to make a pass (draglites with 28x10 drag radials).. hooked amazingly off the line, was out of 1st and into 2nd by the 60ft mark, 2nd pulled hard and put me back into the seat harder than it has yet and into 3rd and i was through the traps before i knew it.. what a freakin blast!!

needless to say, after my second run, they told me to slow it down because the car isn't SFI or NHRA/IHRA certified yeah.. they give you 1 warning before they give you the boot.. i got the boot :D

cool i'll have to take it easy on my windsor!! Its got cast pistons, stock rods,.030,e7te pa heads, dualplane intake, lunati cam,2200stall,c-6,3.27s. I was hoping to do this cheap!!! So i prob should start with 5psi and figure timing from there, then how much retard to set the  for as psi increases!!  I could prob get it figured out.

it definitely helps to have a wideband air fuel gauge.. it makes life easier.. i picked mine up off a honda forum my buddy is on.. paid 100 bucks for it and it was still in the box.. i recommend using a digital name brand that actually tells you what your air/fuel ratio is.. but on a stock bottom end, you're safe to go to 8-10 before things start breaking lol.. i would recommend getting new pistons though.. even if they're sealed power/speed pro cheapy forged pistons, they'll hold up a lot better than cast

well.. good news for the capri.. she's ready for her IHRA/SFI certs in the spring.. and as an added bonus, i found a SMOKING hot deal on a slightly used F.A.S.T. setup.. only thing that sucks is i now have to drill my intake for injectors since it didn't come with 1, but at least i got the black box, complete harness, throttle body, fuel rail and 2 full sets of injectors(57lb and 65lb(NEW)) for $650.. so in a few weeks, it's time to break down and start setting it up to hit the dyno and HOPEFULLY see 20psi hold together.. those would be numbers i'd love to see.. may need to upgrade the black box though.. i believe it only supports up to 800hp, but only time and dyno tests will tell
