new deck Reply #15 – July 14, 2010, 12:55:04 PM You could lay the board down and use two others of identical length, (short and used like spacers), to get your 16"O.C.. Take however thick your joists are, and subtract that from 16", then cut the two spacers to that length. I don't know if that's considered cheating, or just a good, practical, and easy way to get the job done. In the time it would take you to get your figures all worked out (with an unknown radius), your marks will be made and you'll be ready to cut. KISS! That looks awesome, by the way. I'm glad you didn't go with plywood, after doing everything else so well. Quote Selected

new deck Reply #17 – September 19, 2010, 04:12:56 PM I think now is a good stopping point. The porch will wrap around on each end of the house but the back will have an upper deck or balcony spanning the whole rear. I would have to chainsaw out a couple windows and put in doors so ,, looks like I will pick back up on this next year. its getting too close to late in the year to continue. Everything is protected and 16 gallons of green oil base later, I have to say its been fun. BTW, oil base paints are getting harder and harder to come by so if you see some, get it now. new deck Reply #18 – September 19, 2010, 10:56:58 PM That's crazy! I gave up on all construction projects that don't involve metal. Too much metalworking has made me a tolerence puppies and that just doesn't work out with wood. Close tolerences are supposed to be good, not make your pieces too big! I'd have probably freaked out and given up log before getting to the point you're at.Seriously though, looks great! Quote Selected

new deck Reply #20 – September 20, 2010, 11:40:02 PM apparently its noting to do with anything other than hazmat rules with respect to the required msds on file for containers over a certain size given all the exceptions applicable to super market chain stores.lowes has the honey brown and cedar tone stains in 5gal containers. Wal mart is redoing thier paint dept down here and the 5gal cans are half price. At 68 bux a 5gal can, im pretty sure im going back to get the remaining 6 cans they have. its odd though about the oil base paint. People looked at me like i was from mars when i said i wanted deck enamal in oil base. they were like,, oh, you mean deck stain? No, I want hunter green oil base deck paint. Then lowes said they had this stuff like oil base but its alkalyne or whatever type paint. The 1gal cans dont say "oil" anywhere. not sure anymore what kind of chemicals are going to be avail to us here soon. Quote Selected
