More problems

I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing this, but I need a little help. I had posted previously about how my car bucked and stalled while going down the road. It runs smooth in park, but once you go down the road, it starts fighting. I pulled codes once and the only thing that stood out was the spout connector. I replaced the timing chain (and water pump), it had jumped a tooth, but that didn't fix the problem. It's not a timing issue, the electric advance is working. I also replaced the TPS, Oil change was less than 100 miles ago, as was plugs wires, cap and rotor.

It's also hard to start. I'm not sure if the two are related, you gotta really pump the gas while the engine is turning over.

Now, here's what we did today. I jacked up the car, and we put it in gear. The car ran smoothly all the way up to 85. (Yell at my dad for that one, not me). We also tried to simulate load on the car by holding the brakes down while doing the same. It still ran good.

My unexperienced, 17 year old guess is that it has to do with airflow, maybe while driving, it's leaning out. I think the MAP sensor might be the problem, some one else mentioned that the Speed Density sensor might be the problem.

Friday I'm gonna use a can of Seafoam, just for shiznits and giggles.

Thanks,

Joshua

No such thing as a speed densety sensor...

I'd check fuel pressure under load, could have a weak pump...

That's my first thought too. Problems getting started point to fuel or spark problems and spark isn't that intermittent (although it can be weak).

For a person with likely not a lot of disposable income, Harbor Freight sells cheap gauges and would tell you enough to pinpoint such problems. Even if you upgrade later down the road, it's always nice to have a unit to fall back on in case your primary gauge fails for whatever reason.

I guess an area that is unclear/left out - does it hesitate when accelerating, when you are coasting, or both?

That happened to the Sport a short while ago. At a stop, idles fine. Starts fine...under any load, bucking, stalling, total .Swapped the pump, good to go.

The local Autozone has a fuel pressure gauge they can hook up to your rail and check it for you for free. That's what I did. It was a wonder the Sport would even stay running at idle.

It only happens when you are accelerating. Thanks for the help, I'll try to get a gauge and test the fuel pressure. I might rent one if that's possible...

have enough hose to tape the guage to the windshield.  drive car and if needle goes near 20psi from first to second flooring the engine and similair results between other gears,,then replace your pump.

Hey, one quick question. I wasn't able to do anything yet (My parent's needed to borrow my money) but which fuel pump do I need to replace? The in tank one I'm assuming?
