Aluminum Driveshaft FAIL!

Hey guys, just got back from a waste of 1.5 Hours.
I drove into town to get my aluminum shaft modified, and I was told that they are unable to weld the shaft to the end caps satisfactorily after cutting them, so they were unwilling to reuse the end caps on the shaft, and if there are any dings and you want it straightened, forget it, they won't do it due to the wall thickness(Lack thereof) on OE vehicle applications.

But for ~$350, they can build me a brand new shaft....

They said the end caps run from $50-70 each.

Basically they wanted to rebuild the whole shaft to ensure it was a quality product. Which, I guess I can understand, but it is irritating. I'm sure if I had walked in with an aftermarket shaft, they wouldn't have had any issues, but like I said, wall thickness/Impurities/Etc

So, walked in with a $30 pile of hope, left with a  paperweight.:mad:

you need this 3-step program, lol
1. PM Vinnie for an address
2. Fed-Ex your shaft, and some money to this address.
3. Install your shaft when it arrives back to you
;)

Is so absolutely true. It happened on my old motor. Well, ok, it was the lifters, but still.

wow then how does that business get any business? If they can't meet the demands of there costomers then they won't be around for long. Hell my father in law at his little 2 bay shop can weld aluminum. And his aluminum welder has about a inch of dust on it now.

the guy I went to to have my alum drive shaft shortened charged me $40, the thing he said is he could not garrenty the balance of it

I stared out with a $10 explorer  drive shaft of 51" and had 3 cut to make it 48"
the weld looked good and he used the OE caps

Ujoints were a bit of fun to figure out

its bolted in the car, but a few more things to check out and finish up before I hit the key.
