Hood insulation material

Does anyone know what the stock hood insulation material is made out of? I'd like to buy some to make a new hood insulation pad on my car. Why would I want to make my own? Well it looks pretty easy and I think I can make one;)

Why don't you just buy one of the ready made hood liners with a bird emblem on it? Those really look cool and are made for the car. This is the one I stuck in my daughter's car over the winter. It's not a bird, but you get the idea.

I'm trying to find something that replicates the look of the original hood insulation ;)

What, greasy and tattered? JK. Seriously though, I think if you saw one of the new style liners in person, you'd prefer that hands down. Your car is super clean, but it's not 100% original anymore, so adding an original style liner isn't going to increase the value any. Adding a very nice liner with a cool looking bird on it would bump the cool factor a little.
