Not a Fox

Perhaps a little Cliché, but I have been looking for a 67 mustang or 70s Grabber.  Well, a couple months back I finally took the plunge.

My newly aquired 1697 Mustang Coupe.
Original V8 Car with 3 Speed automatic.
Manual steering, manual brakes, non-AC - just like Donald Frey intended.
 
I know that the 67 mustang is a little over done but I like the coupe more than the fastback.  Also, the prices are much more reasonable.  Anyway, I am really happy with the car and can't wait to get it back on the road.  My Cougar will probably be up for sale soon as well.  Haven't decided if I am going to keep the drive-train out of the Cougar or not.

The background on the car is pretty sad.  The previous owner was in the Army reserves.  When he would come home from wherever, he would work non-stop on the car.  Back in 2005, he passed away while in Iraq.  His mom has been holding onto the car ever since and finally decided that she wanted to sell it rather than have it rot away in the garage.  She was pretty sad and told me a story about how he would play "low rider" and work on the car.  She also said she had other offers but she felt that I would appreciate it the most as the other bids were from people looking to part it out.  I offered to bring it by when I got it back on the road and that made her pretty happy.

They had taken it to a garage to get it running sometime in 2008.  The "garage" stripped off the carb and some other parts.  The garage quit trying and returned it in pieces.  I found out later that the fuel line was hammered flat.

2 Days after getting it home, I had it running.  It's currently fueled out of a small gas can until I can figure out what to do with the old stuff in the tank.  Looks like the engine was recently rebuilt and it has a D8OE casting number - which is a 78 302 from something.  Looks like the original engine is long gone.  Plans were to put something bigger in there anyway.

 
 
I am currently in the middle of replacing the only rust on the car.  The battery apr0n and the radiator support.  After that, I will get it inspected and back on the road.  It needs quite a bit of interior work, but the body is straight as an arrow and the paint is good.

Nice score , sadly I had to sell my 67 hardtop a few months back.

I have been trying to figure out how/where but I feel that something like the flag would be appropriate.  Good idea.

Cool! Just don't let his car go to waste. I'm sure he'd be happy to know its in good hands. Have fun with her!

Great looking car,and an awesome project.2 of my good friends locally both have coupes. One a '67,one a '68. We installed an Explorer 8.8 diff in one of them. Perfect fit.8.8 with 31 spline,traction Lock,disc brakes,and 3.73 gears.Just had to weld the perches on,and run the brake lines.Very nice.The both have my old 5.0's in them,although they have been modded somewhat. The '67 has the Explorer rear,5.0 with the serpentine belt system,rack and pinion,and FR500 wheels (17x9). Nice car.

Thanks for the compliments.  Good to know about the explorer 8.8.  The car has an 8 inch in it right now, but I was wondering what 8.8 would fit (I've rebuilt a few now). 

The plans are to make a cruiser for it.  I want to drive it to the dream cruse next year (my old stomping grounds) or maybe do the power tour some day.  So reliability will be king.  I would love to stuff a 4.6 DOHC in it, but that would require a full front suspension swap.
