Tail Light Mod and Disassembly

Hey everyone, new to the forum. I found a link to here from the CoolCats website. They have a modification on there to make your 86 tail lights look like 87 and up, the three circles. Their tutorial said that the lens on the 86 tail lights just pop off, i looked at my car and im having a hard to just finding a seem. Do i need to completely remove the tail light to remove the lens?

welcome to the board!

never saw this mod,,, but i would certainly think so.
easy enough to take out though,  i would be prepared with a heat gun or such to encourage the cover off.

The lenses will not physically fit from one body to the other. Are you sure they weren't talking about the sequential lights? Can you post the link you read?

The tail light lenses are stuck to the housing using an adhesive. They pull apart, but be VERY careful or you can break the lens.

Essentially what you are supposed to do is get a thin piece of black foam, measure and cut three holes out in front of the bulb and put the cover back on and voila 86 tail lights with an 87 style. I posted the link below. btw CoolCats has some good information.

I'm with ya now. Not a hard mod at all. As I mentioned, just be real careful pulling the lens from the housing.
