Jams in a shed

I've been jamming with these three local guys for a little over a year now. We just realised that we should probably record some of these tunes. Anyway, this is a few days back playing in Jay's (Epiphone Les Paul) shed. We just barely fit in there, but it sounds decent. It's Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix.

*edit*

Just a warning if you're listening to this on a lap-top. You won't hear most of the Drums or any of the Bass if you don't have headphones on or plug into something with a sub. Even still, the Drums are mostly cymbals (he's a quiet player).

Right on, man. Very cool stuff.

Who is doing the vocals? He's got the same range as Hendrix but with less attack, which sounds good with that particular song. Sounds awesome; keep it up and start booking some gigs!

It's funny you should post that, because I have a sound clip of my band jamming this exact song from last summer: Click to get it.

I play the second solo (clean, loud guitar).

That's John O'brien, a guy who lives up the road from me. He also plays an Epiphone Les Paul, and has an ugly old painted blue Gibson SG. He has a number of others, but those are the only ones he plays with us. He's what you would call a guitar player who is forced to sing by the rest of the 'band'. ;) He definitely pulls it off, though. Some of the Zeppelin and Allman Brothers stuff really stretches him, though. We never complain, but he constantly does. "We really need a singer, guys." I give him props just for trying some of those tunes.

I should put up a few more.

And that sounds great, man. I'm going to listen again with headphones on, though, because most of the lower tones don't play on these little laptop speakers at all. Little Wing is a perfect jam/solo song. You can just keep on playing until everyone is tired of hearing it. Hendrix' version is just over 2 minutes. It takes that long to get everyone into the groove.

Jay (maple Les Paul, lead guitar line, solo, occasional vocals)
John (red sunburst Les Paul, blue SG, rhythm guitar, solo, most of the vocals) [these two guys switch roles for different songs]
Josh (he's our mountain-man Drummer, and I have no idea what kind of drums he plays)
myself (tobacco sunburst Fender Jazz, flaming Highland Thunder Chief SHB, Bass)

Dig that bass; walking up and down just like the original. You guys really connect with the originals, which is something I admire. What does somebody say at the very end?

The guys I jam with tend to make their own creative versions. We've actually recorded a 12-minute Lemon Song-into-Moby Dick. My distortion pedal had smoke coming out of it by the end. Don't feel bad about jamming in a shed, either. We jam in a dark, damp basp00get with about 200 empty beer cans, 10 broken guitars, and about 8 monitors (half of which are slightly functional).

Well, I see your Funk #49 and I raise you with a 'Cissy Strut' jam, far removed from the version released by The Meters. Click here. I'm playing the clean rhythm guitar. Check out the sick delay effects I coaxed from my old-school DOD pedal about halfway through the clip.

Nice, man! Really tight groove, there. I don't actually know that song. I'm going to have to youtube it to hear the original. It seems like we all play the same kind of tunes. I think that was just John saying something like 'Yeah, that's a cool song'.

Here's a loose version of Whipping Post (later in the evening, after many beverages). We jam all over the place, actually. In my shop, in John's little studio space, Jay's shed, a few times at another drummer's place. Most often we just go until our fingers go completely numb. Thanks, by the way. We really do try to stay true to the song itself, but usually we stretch a song out so we can do our own stuff as well. Throw in a coda or two to mess around for a bit.
