Now If I would have played with the timing, I'll bet it would be a different story.

When I first bought my '96, I pumped 93 octane into it to see how it would run. My logic was that the knock sensor would tell the computer to bump the timing up, therefore it would return better performance and greater economy.

Well, I was wrong. Wishful thinking, though. The car ran like ass and began to give me misfire codes using the CEL. I went back to 87 and it's been running exactly as it should for the last 30,000 miles.

In regards to fuel quality, I've always been satisfied with BP. I once bought gas at a cheapo no-name place and the engine pinged like hell until I found another BP.

I have my timing at 14 degrees right my and filled up with 89 cause 711 was out of 85. I averaged 2mpg less almost all city. I wonder if my timing again jumped a tooth and i'm running retarded. I haven't had the car ping, and i decided to leave it at 14 based on how quickly it neutral revved. I also know my car won't hit wot with my bad throttle cable.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
