is this a rarity? April 04, 2005, 09:12:15 PM Today, while I was scrounging fer parts, I saw a red '87 TBird...But not just any ole Bird: this one had a throttle body V6, BUT, it had a full turbocoupe or sport interior, right down to the armrest/high back backseats...had the full console, and the TC/Sport doorpanels, as well...Is this an uncommon car, or am I just not as versed in Thunderbird info as I should be?Nearly as I could tell, the car is an LX, vin # is a 62, if I remember correctly, Turbocoupe50 said that was an LX...Anywho, the point of all this blah blah is that I'm gonna try to buy the car...Dunno if it runs or what, no exterior damage though...fwiw, the car is red, with grey/charcoal interior, got the steels wheels with square hole along the edge (for lack of better desciption) Quote Selected
Re: is this a rarity? Reply #1 – April 04, 2005, 10:09:22 PM It's a V6 car with the steelies? It sounds like somebody may have swapped the interior from a TC or sport. Quote Selected
Re: is this a rarity? Reply #2 – April 04, 2005, 10:49:58 PM I've heard of a couple of V-6 cars with the Sport interior. Not real common. Quote Selected
Re: is this a rarity? Reply #3 – April 04, 2005, 11:06:59 PM that was what I was thinking, Thursday, when the owner gets back, I'm gonna chat him up over it.I was told that it was a TC, but when I first saw the car, I knew better.too bad it's an '87 though, I prefer the efi over throttle body... Re: is this a rarity? Reply #6 – April 10, 2005, 05:14:43 PM On this edition, is there any way to tell? This one has no badges whatsoever,(outside of Thunderbird on the trunk lid) and it is column shift. Also has premium sound on the door speaker grilles, but just has AM/Fm cassette, no EQ.I was told that for 750 it'd be mine, and it needs a timing chain...Kinda got me thinkin' about it... Re: is this a rarity? Reply #7 – April 11, 2005, 02:37:00 PM What gauge cluster does it have? That sounds like a neat car, very rare indeed. Find the build sheet for it! Quote Selected
Re: is this a rarity? Reply #8 – April 11, 2005, 07:12:36 PM just the standard digital...I really believe at this time the interior has been swapped in...the saets and door panels don't match in color, just stuff like that, in addition to the premium sound mis-match I mentioned in a previous post...Thanks guys for the help and info though Quote Selected
Re: is this a rarity? Reply #9 – April 11, 2005, 07:47:14 PM Yea you guys are gonna hoot and holler, but the fact is the Sport/TC buckets and full console were only available in those models. If you got a base or LX the split bench with consolette was the only choice, NO other seats were optional(per info in the '88 dealer album). So IF you find a base or LX with full console and Sport seats, someone swapped them. Same is true with the buttstuffog clusters... ONLY avaible on Sport('88) and TCs.... Quote Selected
