The TC may finally be getting what it deserves

Actally, considering how this thing has treated me, it doesn't deserve shiznit, but you know.

The wife and I may end up staying in Edmonton until February. I just got my second raise in three months, and this gives us an oportunity to pay off more of the house, finish getting the yard up to snuff, and in turn get a bigger return come time to sell. (March is the ideal time to sell)

But I have terms. I get more homesick every day, and I've been building up to the move since August. So to have that taken away, you'd better be  sure I'm getting something out of it. In the last year, we've put over $10G into this  house, so I know the money is there.

-A proffessional paint job. (candy apple with mild gold or silver flake, and black cherry clear (mix a darker hue with the clear. midnight blue or even black) from the windows up over the candy for a nice two tone. Then a final clear). I'm thinking $1500. Am I out to lunch on the price? Seems a bit cheap, actually.

-A T3/T4 60. The IHI needs to go elsewhere. (Like the Jeep :D ) I'll probably just sell it to a local guy in one of my cruising clubs.

-Build the long block I have in the garage from an '83. (Cam and RacerWalsh turbo header)

-Lowering springs. Any sugestions? Has anyone here fitted a coilover on their Bird/Cat?

-It's exhaust time anyway.

Now, the truth is, I won't get all of these. If I go with a plain Candy Apple base clear, I can probably get away with more. I'll just have to wait until I take a painting course to do the paint I want a few more years down the road. This car has been on the back burner long enough.

Of course, we'll have a kid in two weeks, so none of this may EVER happen. :toilet:

On th paintjob it depends on how much you have done and how much you do yourself.  Materials have gone up in price a bit as of late.  I don't think you have much body work/prep that needs to be done, so it might be close if you strip the car down for paint.  I'm getting  pretty full job myself (jams, underside of trunk and hood) and a couple extras and it's $2200 total.  I stripped all the molding, trim and other nonsense around the car off.  Mine needed a little body work here and there as well.  With the "extras" you want in the finish you might be closer to $2000, but I can't say for certain.  Obviously some guys can get it done cheaper if they do ALL the work themselves and spray it, but I don't have the room myself for that right now.  Don't skimp on the materials either.  You don't have to get top shelf stuff, but don't go bargain basp00get.

The paint is a pipe dream, and that cost was pure fantasy. It'll probably have to wait until the thing makes classic status (2012). I think it will end up just a base clear candy apple, with Jams, but not underhood or trunk. I shouldn't need any body work, since I fixed all the cancer two years ago when I painted it acryllic enamel in the garage. I believe I'll just tear everything down and have it towed there. No prep work by me. I want this done right. The only work I'll do is filling the emblem holes in the trunk, and maybe shaving the antenna.

Still, I think that paint scheme would look super hot. I could see that being incentive to drive to Ohio. :D

Right now, paint is a priority, then turbo. After that I'll look at a 2500 crank and turbo header, if I can manage to build the other lump. (2 years just sitting there taunting me)

I would imagine $1500-2000 would be more than a possibility then for the "basic" paint job.  Perhaps less if all they have to do is minor prep, seal and spray.

I got a quote for $1600 to paint the T-Bird, but that's with no bodywork and just plain white paint (no metallic, no clearcoat). I hope to have this done later this summer.

I will probably end up taking all the trim and lights out of it to save a few $$ - this would have the added benefit of making sure the paint is done right (not just taped off and painted around the emblems, trim, lights, etc).
