intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise December 13, 2009, 07:38:58 PM I serched to no avail. I ran the car (88tcoupe, all stock cept boost vac lines rerouted for more boost) uphill, downshifted to 3rd and it boosted up the hill, let out to shift and WOOSH. Now its gutless, and when it boosts you here the air rushing out somewere, and it tries to kill the motor. Im thinking intercooler couplers?? The vac lines look to be intact but I gotta check them when I pull the I/C. I want to buy some new I/C couplers either way, what sizes should I order? Cause the stock ones SUCKKK. Intake pipe is getting replaced too cause I want a cone filter, and a nice metal pipe to eliminate that being a possible problem too Quote Selected
intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #1 – December 13, 2009, 08:28:19 PM I have only had a turbo XR-7 for a short time, so my experience is limited, but it sounds to me like the wastegate. If I'm not mistaken, this opens when you shift gears. Perhaps it's stuck open. I think there is a linkage on the bottom of the turbo (could be bound up?). Quote Selected

intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #3 – December 14, 2009, 10:13:39 AM talked to some guys at school, from what its doing there saying that its most likely NOT the wastegate or id get boost spike. Can anyone help me out here? Chuck? I hate to be a pain like this, I mean I searched for 3 hours last night. Couldnt find any info on the couplers as to what sizes they are, or anyone with a similar issue. If I dont get a response by 4 when I get outta school i guess ill bite the bullet and rip it all apart... Quote Selected
intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #4 – December 14, 2009, 10:17:09 AM first thing I would do is grab the I/C and pull up gently to see if it moves as if the coupler came loose if not remove your I/C and inspect your couplers if you dont find anything double check to make sure you have installed the I/C correctly and the clamps are tight. intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #6 – December 14, 2009, 11:57:23 AM well I looked and, ill be ed the clamp slid off the back. Which is why I didnt see it the other night, and yesturday was POURING so I was not about to look around under the hood. The coupler is too BIG so it slid right out of the clamp. Still gonna order new ones, and some of those fancy band clamps. And since this is the second time this has happened, I guess im gonna order a BPV along with the K&N, and gillis valve. Thanks guys for dealing with my noob-ness. I was shooting for the worst so i wouldnt be shocked by something bad. Thank god it was simple and free to fix!! Now I just gotta do the mods to eliminate this problem from happening again Quote Selected
intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #7 – December 15, 2009, 09:13:41 AM thought it was fixed, but nopeIt was cracked. Coupler is TOAST. Its rigged right now so the car runs great again(bled the cooling system, toped off the oil, and ran it HARD last night). So do I need a 2 inch, and a 2 1/2 inch coupler?? I dont want to pull the intercooler back off but if I have to I will to measure, but I figure one of you guys must know. Thanks! Quote Selected

intercooler couplers?? Wooshing noise Reply #13 – December 16, 2009, 07:12:41 PM Also you don't have to change any hoses to install a K&N, it will fit right on the front of the vane air meter. Just trying to be helpful. :Dhttp://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/knins.htm Quote Selected
