Some T-Bird Love: Old School Scans(DUW)

Going through some more old dealership mags...found a bunch of Thunderbird info and ads.

First one--The San Diego Chargers Thunderbirds:

Last one for now: the February 17, 1983 Thunderbird launch by dealers across the nation.
Those in the STL...how cool would that have been to see a 'Bird flying by the Arch?

We have the luxury of looking back a few decades now, but to be blunt our cars did exactly what they were meant to do. They changed the look of Fords well into the future, they brought customers into showrooms, they made a lot of sales (and profits) for Ford, and they made a comfortable stepping stone to the next versions of the cars. Ford doesn't have to account for (or apologize for) anything. On paper our cars did their jobs as well as the Tempo/Topaz models did.

What's sad is how, even with the heaps of praise for the cars over the years and particularly when new, they're still forgotten by nearly everyone except for those dedicated enthusiasts that gather here. Being lumped in with the generally horrid cars of the 1980's isn't fair but they are victims of their time. Our job is to let everyone know that these cars were, in fact, the exact opposite of those other vehicles and should be remembered as such.

Be that as it may...these scans are just reminders of simpler times, of how good things with our cars happened in the past, and how optimistic everyone was during a time of a sagging economy and general malaise.

You know what's funny?  Anytime I clean the ol' cat up and bring it to a cruise in; I almost always have a person approach me and compliment the car & tell me they had one.  Every one of them has said that it was the best/greatest riding car they ever owned....Food for thought ;)

Oh trust me, Paul, I hear the same thing exactly as you said. But "used to own one" and "looking for another one"...those two phrases rarely interconnect in my experience. So yeah, they don't forget how nice the cars are. But they don't have any desire to relive that experience. That still leaves us orphans.

I remember that Motorcraft spark plug ad from back in the day. It brings back great memories to see it again :) I thought it was such a cool looking ad back then and it looks pretty modern even for today.  I'm still a huge fan of those 88 TC's with that dark blue and red stripe like the one featured in the ad.

I have that ad as well as quite a few other ads and articals I've collected. I don't have a scanner to post them though. I even have a few doubles I've been thinking of trying to sell for around $5.00 each.
