Air/smog pump tube

I have an 87 Bird with 3.8.  While looking for the source of my exhaust leak, I found that the steel tube from the air/smog pump had broken off from the Y-pipe.  Can anybody tell me if there's an easy way to block off the hole in the y-pipe, preferrably without removing the pipe from the exhaust manifolds?

Thanks in advance

unless you already deleted the smog pump, you may as well hook it back up. I would just use better grade hose on it. Try getting some hose and sticking somehting inside of it. On the wifes neon, the overflow for the radiator broke somehow and was leaking coolant trying to overheat. I took the hose of and stuck a 1/4 drive socket extension into in a put a hose clamp over it. It worked fine till I could replace the overflow.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

that area is very tight to say the least.

I was able to bend the residual tube still stuck in teh exhaust over and pinch it off with many crimps using vise grips.

the downside is you will have the smog pipe pumping soot out onto the firewall area and have an odd noise as a result of the smog pump.  You will hear the smog pump burping so to speak its pumped air back out into the open.

Remove pully off smog
pry off plastic fan blade
install shorter belt
follow same path but just not to include smog pully

now the smog does not turn.

or......................
to to the round fitting on the rear of intake pass side (one way check valve about 2'' in diameter).
remove that hose and clamp.
install a longer black hose about 2' long.
route the hose up to the strut tower and shove it into one of the larger holes.
now the enine debris will pump out into the wheel well where it is deposited along the way as you drive.

or...........

cap off the round do hicky on the intake and expect substantial carbon buildup resulting in egr base plate carbon buildup as well.
