WHats wrong with my gas light? Stays on all the time.

So in my 1988 tbird ever since I bought it a couple days ago my gas light hasnt went off? The gas gague works fine. Could it be something wrong with the Information Center in the console?

Maybe someone else has had the same problem and can help me fix it. Thanks in advance

This is strange... I always thought the light worked directly off of the gauge.

I'm trying to picture this... where is your gas light located?

Down on the info center in the console, in front of the shifter.

Hmmm... being that I've not owned a car with one of the System Sentry's intact I'd throw an educated guess out that it's something in the wiring between the System Sentry (the info center in front of the shifter) and the instrument panel... or wherever that stuff connects to.

IIRC,  there is a low fuel module somewhere behind the glove compartment.  I believe it is a black box about 3 or 4 inches square.

low fuel sensor location is upper right of I/P, just pop out the glove box and it should be there on a blade type metal braket.

the low fuel sensor (switch) is looking for high resistance from the sender in the tank to turn on the light.

the reason the light is on is because it detects a high resistance.

since the guage works fine, locate the module, take it apart and see if there is a relay on board.  there could be a simple .50c fix by way of a radio shack part.

The low fuel moduel is in parallel with the guage to its operation of the light really says it unto itself sees high resistance.  the only way it can have this conflict is if the yellow white wire in the instrument panel is broke or........

broke black wire at the module
broken splice in center of IP (S902)
final ground point dead center lower IP (G902)

Also, verify power to the unit in two places........
12v on the R/Y
5v on the DG/W
Check fuse 18 because it controls non critical circuits you would never notice missing. If your flash to pass relay is not working, its probably blown.

Everything  points to the instrument panel.  been in there lately?
Or
How about the glove box lamp?

Thanks that helps alot! I had to check my self back into the hospital yesterday so I had no time to work on it. Still getting over internial injuries from my car accident. Apparently i have some swelling in and around my heart.

Now that you said something about the glove box light, it doesnt work either. I myself havent taken the instrument panel out but I cant speak for the previous owner.
