There is no historic plates in utah. A car from 1967 on has to pass both safety and emissions. Which means no 460 ever. It also meas, it is illegal to modify exhaust from stock, or to put any parts on the motor that were not originally intended for that car. Supposedly it is illegal to put a 302 in a v-6 car, even though the v-8 was available. As a matter of fact, I once got failed on emissions, because they said my exhaust didn't look like it should according to there computers. They typed in 88 cougar, not 86. I guess in 88 a fake duel was on every v8.

What I think is really funny, is if you have a 94 up car, you aren't required to do an inspection or saftey every year. My wife's neon passed saftey with less then 1/32 of an inch of brake pad left. There is a guy I used to know that had a 460 in a 99ish mustang. He passed emissions by putting a dummy obd2 computer in it. He said he got it off ebay for $40. WTF. I can't wait till the smog pumps on our cars can't be bought from autozone and we have to buy everything used of off late model restoration.

I paid $500 or so trying to get my car to pass emissions. I went to the DMV and told them I have a 20 year old car and can't pass emissions. They told me to go to the state department of transportation to get it inspected. They told me my car doesn't qualify for it because I didn't have every vacuum line routed the way its showed on there records. But the guy with the 460 in the 90's mustang can pass with no problems because he has OBD2. Maybe I'll just throw a dummy computer in my car and go carbed.

Ever gone to one of those places, where no one knows anything about cars and just plugs the computer in to test your car? I got told my car could not be tested because they didn't have a plug for it.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I registered my 88 historic last year. In Maryland that means no inspections, including emissions test, ever. Period. And the insurance is cheaper.:D
Cars registered as "Antique Auto" in Nova Scotia don't need inspections either, and the plates and insurance are much cheaper as well, but unfortunately the car has to be 30 years old to qualify for the plates.

Haysdtack: Reading that makes me WAY glad that we don't have that emissions bullshiznit here...
