thoughtful workers April 25, 2009, 10:03:27 PM I discovered today that sometime this week (probably last night) my car got a visit from some moonlight mechanics. Apparently, they need my stereo and speakers more than I do. They unscrewed the facia, pulled it forward (feet are probably broken), stuck the screws back into the mounts, and pulled the stereo. Of course I was begging for it. While testing the speaker install, I left the radio face attached. Quote Selected

thoughtful workers Reply #2 – April 25, 2009, 10:52:19 PM It's just sad to hear about the values of some people. My son (then in high school) was at his after school job when someone smashed his window and stole his stereo. I guess the theory is "Why work when you can just steal from someone who does work?" Hmm, does that statement qualify me to work for the government (either party)? Either way, sorry to hear about your car. Quote Selected
thoughtful workers Reply #3 – April 25, 2009, 10:59:07 PM At least they unscrewed your bezel. I lent my car to my father about 4 years ago and thieves broke in while he had it. They broke the right quarter window and just pulled the bezel off without unscrewing anything. It actually destroyed the dash, but I was planning on changing it anyway because the top was cracked. Luckily I had the parts TC at the time, so I also had a replacement window. They didn't steal the stereo (I still had the face plate at home) but they did plenty of damage and stole a dozen or so CD's.The worst thing is it was the second time I'd lent him the car, and the second time it was broken into (the first time the thieves broke the right door window). It was parked in the same spot, too. That time they DID get the stereo - a cheap $79 JVC CD player. The window was $380. Needless to say he will not be borrowing it any more. Quote Selected
thoughtful workers Reply #4 – April 26, 2009, 05:58:21 AM Good thing the guys that tried to get into my car where too stupid to get their screwdriver behind my quarter window to make it pressure crack. As for the people who got my Moms. Professional Install/Uninstallers, likely from where we bought it. Removed all the trim nicely, set it aside, carefully removed the stereo, then set the trim back in place just not clipped in.Sucks to hear. I hate when people take what others have earned. thoughtful workers Reply #5 – April 26, 2009, 09:34:13 AM I have been hit once in the old cougar, but they didnt get anything other than my cd's thanks to the little erector set anchor strap holding the stereo in. Quote Selected
thoughtful workers Reply #6 – April 26, 2009, 03:02:00 PM I've left the car unlocked for a while now. It's cheaper to replace a stereo than replace a stereo and window. Of course, that's no guarantee. One time, some idiots knocked out the window when the car was unlocked, pried the facia off with a hammer or crowbar, then pried off the s the receiver. They were too stupid to steal the stereo but at least they trashed the dash. Quote Selected
thoughtful workers Reply #7 – April 26, 2009, 03:55:08 PM I've had my stereo and amp and stuff stolen out of my old Ford pickup. Angry at first, but realized it could have been worse, since I also left it unlocked. I've had all my CD's stolen out of another car, and had my '66 Bronco vandalized to the point of why fix it up? But when that stuff happens, I can't help but think of how it pales in comparison to my grandfather's samurai sword stolen from him that he got in WWII. I mean, I can go buy another stereo. thoughtful workers Reply #8 – April 26, 2009, 04:28:20 PM You all suck...my one time issue was with the person/people punching holes in my door and trunk. I had to replace the entire door and trunklid. Now what they got - a $40 radio. Who even steals these things now days? The majority of people have installed $60-100 receivers that bring in like $20 at the puppies shop. It was different back when CD's were a new technology but not it is just pointless. They could do honest single-day jobs from craigslist postings and be far ahead in pretty much any sense, including time spent scouting for cars. Quote Selected
